Kazi Salauhddin new BFF boss

Legendary footballer Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin swept to the hot seat of President in the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) election held on Monday at the BFF Bhaban in a festive mood.
Salahuddin bagged 62 votes while his rival Maj Gen (retd) Amin Ahmed Chowdury polled 49 votes.
Out of 21 posts at stake, Kazi Salahuddin-led panel got ten posts including president, one vice-president and eight executive committee members.
Maj Gen (retd) Amin Ahmed Chowdhury led panel got 11 posts, including senior vice president, three vice presidents and seven executive committee members.
Elected from Amin Ahmed Chowdhury-led panel: Sr vice-president- Abdus Salam Morshedi (Dhaka Mohammedan), vice-presidents - Kazi Nabil Ahmed (Dhaka Abahani), Badal Roy (Comilla) and Shawkat Ali Khan Jahangir (Victoria SC).
Members - Harun-ur-Rashid (Ctg Abahani), Fazlur Rahman Babul (T&T Club), Sheikh Mohammad Aslam (Khulna Division), Khurshid Alam Babul (Matuail Udayan Sangha), Hasanuzzaman Khan Bablu (Rajshahi), Satyajit Das Rupu (Coaches Association) and Shamsul Haque Chowdhury (Chittagong).
Elected from Kazi Salauddin-led panel: President - Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin (Youngmens' Club); vice president - Manzoor Hossain Malu (Tongi KC).
Members- Anwarul Haque Helal (Gulistan Club), Sirajul Islam Bachchu (Wari Club), Amirul Islam Babu (Mohakhali Eleven), Azfar-uz-Zaman Sohrab (Muslim Institute), Golam Rabbani Helal (Barisal), Mahbubur Rahman Shaheen (Wanderers Club) and Alhaj Mokbul Hossain (Magura) and Shafiquzzaman Shafiq (Jessore).
All the 112 councilors of BFF representing districts, divisions, metropolis clubs, public universities, education boards and other associations exercised their voting right to elect president, a senior vice president, four vice-presidents and 15 executive members.
AFC general secretary Paul Mony and Director of AFC legal service Chairmaine Perreira watched the BFF election as observers.
Registrar of Trade Marks and Patents M Mesbahuddin conducted the polling as chief election commissioner while Director of Passport and Immigration Department Mahfuzur Rahman Siddiqui and NSC Law Officer Kabirul Islam assisted him as election commissioners.
Earlier, Annual General Meeting of BFF was held in the morning at the BFF Bhaban with its President SA Sultan in the chair.
The meeting accorded approval of formation of district football associations and divisional football associations, amended the BFF constitution as per FIFA/AFC guidelines and approved the last year budget.
But the meeting rejected the proposed budget for the year 2008 as it has no guideline and allocation for district and divisional sports associations.
BFF Vice President Abdur Rahim, who is also chairman of Finance Committee, presented the Audit report in the meeting in the absence of Treasurer Shah Alam Chowdhury.
National Cycling begins tomorrow

The NCC Bank 32nd National Cycling Competition begins tomorrow at the Paltan Maidan. Bangladesh Cycling Federation will arrange the three-day long cycling meet.
A total of 100 cyclists will take part in the competition. Twelve events for men and eleven events for women will be held in the three-day long cycling meet.
The budget of the competition has been estimated at Tk 3 lakh and 58 thousand while NCC Bank, the sponsor of the meet has given Tk two lakh to Bangladesh Cycling Federation. The Federation will bear rest of the expenditure.
To mark the upcoming cycling competition, a press conference was held at the Conference room of National Sports Council on Tuesday.
Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Cycling Federation (BCF) Mahbubuzzaman, Vice-President of BCF Ekramuzzaman, General Secretary of the Federation Parvez Hasan, Senior Executive Vice-President of NCC Bank Limited Mohabbat Khan, Joint Secretary of BCF Jobera Rahman Linu were present at the conference among others.
Salman Harun awarded National Snooker Champion Trophy

24th National Snooker Competition 2008 held at the snooker room at Narayangonj Club recently.
Narayangonj Club Ltd organised the competition with the association of Bangladesh Billiards, Snooker Federation, according to a press release.
Salman Harun and Riad Hasan participated in the final game. Salamn played for the Pool Lovers and Riad played for the Narayangonj Club Ltd.
Salman defeated Riad at 7-3 frame. Salman is undefeated since last few years. He has also played in different countries representing Bangladesh in past.
Mosharrof Hossain Bhuiyan, Secretary, Primary and mass Education Ministry also the president of Bangladesh Billiards and Snooker Federation was present at the award giving ceremony.
Premier Hockey: Abahani make good start

Abahani Limited made an auspicious start in the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey League when the popular Dhanmondi based outfit defeated Wari Club by 3-1 goals in the opening match at the Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.
Earlier, Executive Vice-President of Green Delta Insurance Company Limited Najim Tajik Chowdhury inaugurated the hockey meet by releasing the balloons as the chief guest. General Secretary of Bangladesh Hockey-Federation (BHF) Sajed A A Adel, Joint-Secretary of BHF Khawja Manzer Nadeem, Vice-Chairman of the League Committee Kamrul Islam, Treasurer of BHF Quazi Moinuzzaman, Secretary of the League Committee Ehtesham Sultan were present with him at the time.
The victorious team led the first half 1-0.
Chayan of Abahani Limited scored two goals and his teammate Shuvo netted one while Tapu returned one for the losers.
Today's matches: Joint champions Usha KC vs Bangladesh SC (2:30 pm), last time runners-up Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club vs Sadharan Bima KS (4 pm) at the same venue.
The premier league champion team will receive prize money of Tk 25,000; runners-up team Tk 15,000; fair play award winning team Tk 10,000; best player Tk 8,000 and highest scorer Tk 7,000.
Warid Telecom awards 'Cricket Quiz Contest' winners

Warid Telecom on Tuesday handed over prizes to the winners of the 'Cricket Quiz Contest' on recent 'Bangladesh tour of Pakistan.'
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Warid Telecom Mr. Muneer Farooqui handed over the prizes among the winners at a ceremony held at Warid Telecom's head office at Banani in Dhaka. High officials of Warid Telecom were present during the prize-giving ceremony.
Warid Telecom started the SMS-based quiz contest on April 8 to mark Bangladesh cricket team's tour of Pakistan. The quiz competition ended on April 20.
A total of 13 participants of the contest won Sony Ericsson W200i handsets. They are: Mohiuddin Zia, Md. Abu Naser, Shahidur Rahman, Md. Rafiqul Islam, Md. Monirul Islam Sikder, Amina Haque, Afzal Ahmed, Kazi Sultan Alam, Md. Sabbir Shojib, Rashedul Islam, Nazia Nobe, Ruhul Amin and Abdur Rahim.
The highest scorer of the entire campaign, Abdur Rahim, as the tournament winner gets a latest Sony Ericsson W 810i handset.
Impel Group Cricket outplay Dilkusha SC by 77 runs

Riding on two slick fifties from Gopal and Saikat, Impel Group Cricket outplayed Dilkusha SC by 77 runs in the Metropolis Third Division Cricket League at the Dhanmondi Cricket Ground here on Tuesday.
Coin-favoured Impel Group Cricket batted first to post 248 for 9 in the allocated 50 overs. Gopal top scored 59 runs while Saikat made 2nd highest 56.
In reply, Dilkusha SC were bundled out for 171 runs in 43 overs with Joy scoring 39 runs. Mostafizur bagged two wickets for 22 runs.
