Mass awareness to resist child trafficking stressed

A total of twenty-two thousand primary school teachers and students brought out a big rally to raise awareness among the village people of Bagerpara upazila against child trafficking on 17th April morning at about 9-30 AM which was a record of the country against child trafficking for the first time.
This rally was headed by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Bagerpara Md Abdus Samad.
At the same time 95 primary school teachers and students of Bagerpara upazila villages brought out this rally including upazila primary school teachers and students. They chanted slogans no more child trafficking will be occurred from this upazila. When contacted UNO Bagerhpara Md Abdus Samad told this correspondent that they have taken a decision to bring out rally against child trafficking before two months.
This is the first time in Bangladesh to build up awareness against child trafficking among the village peoples. He also said that they will do so after every two months.n
Over 100 people affected by diarrhoea due to hot weather

Over 100 people were affected by diarrhoea in the district in last two days due to prevailing severe heat wave. District Civil Surgeon Dr Abdul Wadud Mia told UNB that over 100 people, especially children, affected by diarrhoea across the district were admitted to different hospitals and clinics. Fall in ground water level has also created acute water crisis in the district.
Ishwardi upazila Met Office Wednesday recorded temperature 40.4 degree Celsius which is highest in the country. It said the scorching heat would continue for next several days.
Ninety year old Dilbor Molla, resident of Raninagar in Sadar upazila, told UNB that he never saw such hot weather during his lifetime. Day labourers are the worst sufferers, as they cannot go out for work under the scorching sun.
Dance workshop held at RU

The Music and Drama Department of Rajshahi University (RU) in association with Indian High Commission, Rajshahi arranged a daylong workshop on Mohini Attom dance, a popular dance of India at RU Deans' complex on Friday.
A renewed Mohini Attom dancer of India Pollobi Krisnan was the instructor of the dance. RU Vice -Chancellor Prof.M. Altaf Hossain was present as the chief guest. Indian Assistant High Commissioner Tarun Kanti Chakravarti was also present there as special guest.
On the seminar 70 students of RU Music and Drama department were participated. The seminar was presided over by department chairman Prof. Dr. Krisna Podo Mondol.
Two held with forged notes in Gopalganj

Gopalganj thana police recovered 42 fake notes of the 500 Tk denomination and arrested two fake note businessmen from Pani village under Karapara union of Gopalganj district on April 20 last.
It may be mentioned that acting on a tip-off a police contingent recovered false notes and arrested two fake note businessmen.
6 held with fake madrasa certificates in Ctg

Police arrested six persons with fake certificates of Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board from different places in the city and district Saturday and Sunday.
Police also seized from them fake certificates issued by different madrasas, admit cards, registration cards, testimonials and rubber stamps of officials of private and public institutions, District Police sources said.
The arrested were Mowlana Mohammad Lokman, 52, Principal of Hathazari Mirzapur Madrasa, Ibrahim Naimee, 45, a senior Mohaddes of Gohira Kamil Madrasa under Raozan upazila, Mowlana Humayon Kabir, 22, of Purba Mekhal under Hathazari, Mowlana Ziaul Hoq, 33, of Satkania upazila, Mowlana Nesar Uddin, 28, of Karuria under Raozan, and Mowlana Khalil Ullah, 24, of Saral under Banshkhali upazila in the district.
Mohammad Alamgir, Officer in-Charge of Hathazari Thana, told BSS that following secret information, a team of Hathazari police arrested Ziaul Hoq and Nesar from Hathazari Sadar area last night along with some fake certificates.
According to their confession, law enforcers arrested Mawlana Ibrahim and Mawlana Lokman also from Hathazari Sadar area with huge fake academic documents and certificate making materials early Sunday.
On the basis of information extracted from the arrested persons, police caught red-handed two fake examinees- Mowlana Humayon Kabir and Mowlana Khalil Ullah - from Wazedia Alia Madrasa centre this afternoon.
Humayun and Khalil had been appearing in the Dakhil examination on Social Science subject under BMEB instead of two other examinees, police said.
A case was filed with Hathazari police.
Attack on hilly village condemned

The Aboriginal students of Rajshahi University (RU) condemned on the attack on hilly village at Baghichhori in Rangamati on April 20 and demanded punishment to the people responsible who ransacked houses at the village on Thursday.
The Aboriginal students of RU organized a press conference at RU press club on Thursday at 10 am.
People living in the hilly tracts are being deprived of many facilities for many years. We demand the permanent solution of land problems, right of self-protection of hilly villagers, the press release said signed by Mecsuel Chakma, Horendra Nath Sing leaders of aboriginal students.
The release also said, we demand legal investigation of inhuman incident, compensation of sufferings and punishment to the persons responsible.
47 held on various charges in Rajshahi

Police, in anticrime drives, arrested 47 people on various charges from different areas in the city and nine upazilas of the district in last 24 hours till yesterday evening.
Of them, 22 were picked up from different areas in the metropolis, while 25 others from nine upazilas of the district.
Police also seized 46 kilograms of copper and brass scrap materials, which were supposed to be smuggled out to India, during a sudden raid on a Chapainawabganj-bound BRTC bus in Kazihat area under Rajpara Police Station in the city. However, none could be arrested in this connection.
Traffic police lodged 29 cases under the motor vehicles ordinance and seized a motorbike and a truck during the drives against non- registered motor vehicles and other document-related malpractice in different parts of the city during the time.
Current nets recovered in Rajbari

In a bid to stop catching hilsha fry "jatka" in the Padma river a task force recovered 1000 meters of banned current net from the costal area of the district on Wednesday.
Rajbari District Fisheries Department Moklesur Rahman D.F.O. Rajbari and sources said, the task force led by a first class Magistrate Md Maniruzzaman UNO of Goalondo upazila and Rezaul Shafiq, senior upazila Fisheries officer of Goalondo recovered the nets and bamboo used for Jatka catching worth about Tk. 2,50 lakh during the raid.
The fishermen who were catching jatka fled away.
Later the task force members burnt the nets and bamboo in front of local people .
3 held with phensidyl in Gaibandha

The DB police in a raid nabbed three persons and recovered 82 bottles of phensidyl and ganja from their possession in the town on Friday.
Being tipped off, a team of DB police recovered 82 bottles of Indian phensidyl worth about Taka 42,000 searching a bag of two rickshaw passengers at a check post at Pulbandi area yesterday morning.
Police held them on charge of carrying the phensidyl. The arrested were Shafiqul Islam, 32, of Lalbagh of Dhaka and Matiul Islam, 22, of south Samash Sarkerpara under Sundarganj upazila of the district.
Besides, the DB police also recovered two kgs of ganja worth about Taka 10,000 from a man in the town.
He was identified as Mojaffar of char Fulbari under Roumari upazila of Kurigram district.
Two cases were filed with Sadar thana in this connection.
7 houses gutted at Hironpur Bazar in Netrakona

A total of seven shops were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out in a super market at Hironpur Bazar under Purbadhala upazila in the district on Tuesday.
Netrakona fire service sources said, the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a battery shop in the market and engulfed the adjoining areas. The fire damaged four stationery shops, one electronic shop and a medicinal store. Being informed, a fire fighting team from Netrakona district headquarters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after two hour efforts.
Deputy Commissioner of Netrakona Mahammad Aiyatullah Majumder visited the spot and assured the affected businessmen of possible help on behalf of the District administration.

Four children drown in Chandpur
CHANDPUR, Apr 26: Four children drowned in ponds in Faridganj and Matlab (North) upazilas on Thursday afternoon. Locals said Rabbi,5, son of Hanif Talukder, and his cousin Shanto, 7, son of Telu Talikder, drowned in a pond adjacent to their house at Kharkhadia village in Faridganj upazila while playing. Farhad, 4, son of Malek Pradhan, and his cousin Moyna, 4, daughter of Kader Pradhan, also drowned in a pond near their house, reports UNB.
Three killed in road mishap
KUSHTIA, Apr 26: Three people were killed and another was injured when a bus rammed into a human hauler at Charmail on Kushtia-Jhenidah road Friday noon. Local sources said the bus hit the human hauler, locally called as "Kariman", when it tried to give side to a bicycle at about 12.15pm, killing a "Kariman" passenger on the spot, and injuring three other people. The injured were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital where two died. The deceased were identified as raw material traders Mannan, 35, and Nannu of Ishwardi in Pabna, and bicycle rider Azizul, 45, of Kushtia. Injured trader Pannu was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, reports UNB.
