City transport in chaos: Most filling stations go dry, as CNG price doubles
Staff Reporter Commuters in the city are bearing the brunt of the recent doubling of the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by the government, as the drivers of CNG-run cabs and three-wheelers were charging exorbitant fares on the first day of the price hike yesterday. The doubled CNG price put autorickshaw and taxicab drivers in a difficult situation and in most cases it led to quarrel and even scuffle with the passengers. As a result many passengers faced difficulties in reaching their destinations.  |
Rice price comes down, soyabean up
Staff Reporter The prices of different varieties of rice still remain high despite starting of 'Boro' harvest at different parts of the country. In the city's retail and wholesale outlets prices of various categories of rice have fallen by Tk 1 to Tk 2 per compared to the price level of the last week. Rice traders are expecting that the prices of rice will come down to a tolerable level with the completion of 'Boro' harvest. They called upon the government to procure 'Boro' rice from the farmers soon after its harvest.  |
Heat wave disrupts city life: Leads to outbreak of diseases across country
Sheikh Arif Bulbon The heat wave now sweeping the country is telling heavily on the health of the people, disrupting their normal activities and slowing down production in the industrial units. Failing to adjust themselves with unbearable heat, a large number of people have been suffering dehydration and heat stroke. Children, day labourers and elderly people are bearing the major brunt of the sweltering heat for the last couple of days. People standing in queues for hours before open market sales outlets are also the worst sufferers of heat exhaustion.  |
Aziz for inter-linkage between small and large enterprises

" The small entrepreneurs can produce well but their marketing capacity is limited" he said while inaugurating micro credit fair at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center here organised by Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). Choked rivers push up temperature of Dhaka city

The temperature of Dhaka city remains 1.5 times higher than that of other cities in the country as its surrounding rivers have been choked with garbage and toxic wastes, speakers said at a discussion meeting in the capital yesterday. The dumping of garbage and toxic wastes everyday into the river Buriganga and other rivers flowing around the capital has virtually turned them into ' dustbin', they noted. The discussion meeting on "Our immediate duty to save Buringanga and other rivers" was jointly organised by Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon (BAPA), Buriganga Bachao Andolon and Puran Dhaka Paribesh Unnayan Forum at the Dr.  |
Death of fellow worker: RMG workers block Dhaka-Aricha road
UNB, Savar
Garment workers went berserk and blocked Dhaka-Aricha highway for two and half-hours Friday morning following the death of a fellow worker in a road accident at Hemayetpur here. The agitated workers also damaged 20/30 vehicles and clashed with police, leaving 20 cops and some workers injured. Sources said when Nasir, 35, was crushed under the wheels of a bus on the road near his workplace, AAKH Fashion, at about 7:45 am his fellow workers protesting the accident took to the street.  |
