Road accidents
Dhaka is perhaps the most ill planned, mismanaged, problematic, crowded, congested and dirtiest capital city in the world.
There is no approved Master Plan for Dhaka city. Residential houses, government offices, schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, clinics, parks, medical stores, judges' courts, police stations, post offices, banks, wholesale and retail markets and shops, godowns, cinema halls, stadiums, mills, factories, mosques, temples and churches, railway and river stations, bus terminals and bus stops, newspaper offices, hotels and restaurants have been built and set up whimsically all over old and new Dhaka on both sides of innumerable narrow, small and serpent like roads, streets, lanes and by-lanes.
Thousands of people, pedestrians, of all walks of life, of all ages, men, women and children, students, boys and girls, office-goers, businessmen, traders, workers, patients have to walk, pass and cross from one side of the road to another at random from any place they like at the great risk of their lives facing the running vehicles, buses, trucks, rickshaws, taxis, motorcycles, cars and there is no Zebra crossing any where.
It is fantastic and unbelievable that there are only 4-5 Zebra crossings all over Dhaka city.
There is no Zebra crossing at Motijheel area, Dhanmondi, Nawabpur road, Gulshan, Narinda, Azimpur, Tejgaon road, Rankin Street, Folder Street, Wari, Ganderia, Hatkhola, Airport road, Mirpur, Chowkbazar, Mohakhali road, Naya Bazar, Shishu Park road, Jatrabari, Sadarghat, Banglabazar, Phulbaria, Topkhana road, Maghbazar road, B.B. Avenue, Johnson road, North-South Road, Topkhana road, Segun Bagicha, Shahid Minar road, Mymensingh road, English road, Elephant road and Nazimuddin road.
Would the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Communication, DCC, DMP, Rajuk, Ward Commissioners kindly look into the matter, set up Zebra Crossing on all important and busy roads and streets and save the people, pedestrians from road accidents, injuries and tragic death?
