Bumper Boro output expected in Kurigram

Bumper Boro cultivation was in full swing in Kurigram in this current season. Agriculture Extension Office source said that in this season Boro has been cultivated so much better than that of previous year in the district. Many farmers are very hopeful but some of them are already discouraged as Boro field may be affected due to widespread Bacteria Leaf Blight virus (BLB) and Bateria Leaf Burn Virus (BLL) disease.
According to the growers on these two kinds of virus are apprehended to break out in the district on a massive scale though proper action has already been taken in the district. Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension office Kurigram district unit Md Mohsin Ali told The New Nation Correspondent bumper Boro production has grown in the district in the current season but somewhere there are BLB and BLF virus attacks. He also told that the lack of proper and best quality seeds of Boro and surprise continued raining may have affected the paddy. In general, about 4 thousand 1 hundred 41 hectares of land are affected with the two kinds of virus under Rajarhat, Fulbari, Nageswari and Sadar Upazila of the district.
DAE sources said due to inclement weather the diseases has broken out in that areas. They further said due to excessive use of urea and cultivation of High Breed Boro paddy.
It may be mentioned that the poor farmers of the northern side are satisfied for bumper production of Boro paddy in this season. As a result Monga' can be prevented the area, locals stated.
Arrest warrants issued against two cops in Gopalganj

A court of Gopalganj issued warrants of arrest against two police officials of the Tungipara Thana under Gopalganj district on April 9.
Sources said the two police officials are the then office-in-charge of the Tungipara Thana under Gopalganj district one Mohammad Mobarak Ali and Sub-Inspector of police in Tunigpara thana Mohammad Nazrul Islam.
The Goplganj district and Sessions Judge Mohammad Morshed Alaur issued the warrents of arrest against the two police officials as they did not appear before the court for hearng of two cases. Court source said the Mobarak Ali O/C Tungipara Thana is the plantiff of an explosive and the investigation officer of an arms case while Mohammad Nazrul Islam is the investigation officer of our explosive case and the plantiff of an arms case.
The court issued Summons against two police officials on March 25 to appear before of the court. But they (Two police officials Mobarak Ali and Nazrul Islam) did not appear before the court on April 9 and the court issued the warrants of arrest. The court fixed the next date of hearing on April 28.
Pahela Baishakh celebrated with much enthusiasm in Gouripur

Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangladesh New Year 1415 was celebrated with much enthusiasm in Gouripur Upazila of Mymensingh district. People from all walks of life wearing traditional dresses gathered at different venues of fairs and functions dawn with enthusiasm.
The whole town wore a festive look as different socio-cultural organisations, public and private institutions arranged attractive programme to welcome the day.
Meanwhile, Chander Hat Agrodut of Gouripur unit, different schools, colleges and Sammilita Silpi Samaj brought out a colourful procession at Gouripur at 10 AM carrying festoons, placards, posters, banners and wearing masks to welcome the Bangla New Year.
Besides, Sammlita Silpi Samaj held a cultural programme at Gouripur Upazila Parishad premises at 11 AM. Chander Hat Agrodut held a cultural programme on its premises in the afternoon, participated by leading artistes of Gouripur Upazila. Smart Value Kinder- garten arranged a special function for the children, Sachetan Nagorik Samaj arranged a Baul songs programme at Dhan Mahal and SUN arranged a stage drama to mark the day.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gaibandha Abu Muhammad Yousuf celebrated the Bangla New Year with the orphan girls of the Government Shishu Paribar at his official residence on Monday.
A cultural function was also held on the occasion. The orphans of the Shishu Paribar, artistes of district Shilpakala Academy rendered songs to welcome the New Year.
Among others, ADC (Revenue) Abdur Rashid, ADM M. Siddiqur Rahman, ADC (General) Abul Bayes Miah, Deputy Director of Social Service Department M. Afzal Hossain and Deputy Superintendent of Shishu Paribar M. Golam Faruque attended the function.
Improved diet was also distributed among the orphans at breakfast and lunch.

3 alleged terrorists held after gunbattle in Jessore

Alleged top terror of the town Mensel along with his two accomplices was arrested after a fierce gunfight with policemen on Tuesday night.
Police officer Sabbir and Mensel received bullet injuries during the encounter at Tafsidanga near the district Palli Bidyut office.
Police said, on a tip-off, they gheraoed Tafsidanga midnight last night when Mensel was holding a meeting with his accomplices to commit crimes.
Sensing the presence of the law-enforcers, the terrorists opened fire on the policemen, who retaliated with shots. Later, Mensel and his two associates Sahed and Ratan were caught from the spot as they received bullet injuries.
Police recovered one revolver, four bullets and one ramda from their possession.
Minor boy killed in Narail road accident

A minor boy was killed in a road accident at Maitkumra area on Lohagora-Kalnaghat road under Lohagora pourasabha here on Wednesday. Police said the boy was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 6, son of Sher Ali of Guccha gram and a student of class one at Mitali Primary School.
The accident occurred when Shafiqul Islam crossing the road a speedy microbus ran over him.
Rapist gets life-term in Netrakona

A youth was sentenced to life term rigorous imprisonment for violating a woman in Kalmakanda Upazila of the district more than seven years ago. Judge of the Child and Women Repression Prevention Tribunal ASM Salauddin Khan delivered the verdict in a crowded courtroom on Wednesday.
The Court also fined the convict Taka 5,000, in default, to suffer one more year in prison.
The convict was identified as Sajal Chandra Shil, of village Uttar Langura under Kalmakanda Upazila.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that, Sajal violated Anita Rani Shil, 22, daughter of Birendra Shil of the same village on January 3, 2002, promising to marry her.
When Sajal refused to marry Anita, she filed a complain to the Kalmakanda Magistrate Court. The Court issued an order to the Officer-in-charge of Kalmakanda Police station to investigate into the matter and submit a report to the Court.
After investigation, police submitted charge-sheet before the Court against Sajal.
The Judge, after examining the witnesses and evidences delivered the judgment.

The only woman freedom fighter Rupjan Bewa (80) in Raninagar Upazila under Naogaon district died on April 1, at her Bashbaria village home, after old-age complications. She was the widow of Late Shamsed Ali Mondal. She was buried at her family graveyard on State funeral, attended by local UNO Abdul Alim Khan, O.C. Rafiqul Alam, freedom fighters and others.

Shops gutted
Brahmanbaria, Apr 19: Valuables of four shops were gutted when a devastating fire that broke out at Bhangura Bazar in Nabinagar upazila early Thursday. Police said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at an electronic equipment shop in the bazar at about 2am and soon engulfed three other adjacent shops. Later, fire brigade on information rushed to the spot and put out the blaze after around two hours of frantic efforts with the help of local people. The affected businessmen claimed that cash and valuables worth Tk 10 lakh were gutted in the fire, reports UNB.

SAVAR, Apr 19: A shop employee, who was beaten up by unknown assailants at his shop in front of Buribazar Diamond Factory near Ashulia thana Wednesday night, succumbed to his injuries when taken to Gonoshyasthya Hospital on Thursday morning. Police said some miscreants beat Shahin, 19, employee of a scrap shop, with hammer indiscriminately while he was sleeping in his shop, leaving him critically injured. In the following morning, local people rescued him in an unconscious state and admitted him to the hospital where the attending doctors declared him dead, reports UNB.
Rapist gets life-termr
KISHOREGANJ, Apr 19: A tribunal here Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term rigorous imprisonment for violating a girl in 2005. The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal also fined the convict M Maksud Alam, 29, son of Momtajuddin of Charpakundia village in Pakundia upazila, Tk 3 lakh, in default, to suffer five years more rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution, Maksud Alam forcibly took his co-villager's teenaged daughter to a shop in the area when she came to the local market on June 2, 2005 and violated her. Later, the girl became pregnant and her parents filed a case with the local police station against Maksud as his parents failed to keep the promise to solemnize their marriage. During the trial the girl also gave birth to a baby girl, reports UNB.
UP chairman jailed
JHAKURGAON, Apr 19: Chairman of Haripur Union Parishad Nazrul Islam when appeared in the district Judicial Magistrate Court in a case was sent to jail hajat on Thursday. Sources said UP member Abdur Rouf filed an extortion case against four persons including the chairman with Haripur police station on March 10 this year. Later, the four accused went into hiding. Police after investigation submitted charge sheet against them in absentia. Nazrul appeared in the court at noon and the magistrate rejecting his bail prayer sent him to jail hajat, reports UNB.
Idols vandalized in Barisal
BARISAL, Apr 19: Unidentified terrorists damaged four idols of a temple at Agoiljhara upazila Wednesday night. Dinobondhu Biswas, president of the historical Uttar Chandshi Saat Kaufla Sarbojonin Mandir, said that a gang of 8/10 terrorists stormed into the temple at dead of night. The miscreants damaged the valuables of the temple and vandalized four idols of Shitla, Kali, Durga, and Radha-Krishna, reports UNB.
One gets life in Moulvibazar
Moulvibazar, Apr 19: A court here on Wednesday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for violating and killing an 11-year-old girl. The lifer Ali Hossain, 28, son of Babul Hossain of Kangela village in Kamalganj upazila, was also fined Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer one year RI more under section 302. According to the prosecution, Ali Hossain raped and killed Ferdousi, 11, when she along with her younger brother was returning home from a fair on the night of January 16, 2004, reports UNB.
