Professional relationship between police and media underscored

Speakers at a view exchange meeting here on Friday underscored the need for professional and cordial relationship between police and media people with the spirit of mutual respect and understanding so that both the important segments of society could discharge their professional responsibilities in establishing a peaceful society.

In a modern day, society, police and media could play an important role in marching forward the country towards progress, stability and upholding the human rights, they observed.

The view sharing meeting on "Police-Media relationship" was organised by the district police authorities at Chittagong circuit house conference room.

Senior police officials of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police, divisional range and district police, senior journalists working in the daily newspapers and electronic media were present in the meeting.

DIG of Police, Chittagong range, AKM Shahidul Haq made a multi-media presentation focusing the importance and different aspects of the relationship between police and journalists.

CMP Commissioner M Akbar Ali, Resident editor of daily Protom Alo Abul Momen, Editor of the daily Karnaphuli Alhaj Afseruddin Chowdhury, Additional DIG of police, Chittagong range, Manjur Quader Khan, SP of Chittagong Kamrul Ahsan, Deputy Commissioner (north) of CMP, Mostafa Kamal, journalists Nurul Alam. Jasim Chowdhury Sabuj, Omar Kaiser, Samir Kanti Barua, Mohammed Shah Nowaz, Mamun Abdullah, Mustafa Nayeem and Saiful Islam Shilpi ,among others, took part in the discussion.

Shahidul Haq in his presentation said efforts are going on to bring a new dimension in the police department so that the force is turned into a pro-people organisation.

He said responsible role of police and media and their symbiotic relationship on a win-win preposition of both the sides could serve better society including combating crime, restoring peace and stability.

CMP Commissioner M Akbar Ali said mutual understanding and respect and maintaining professional ethics by both sides in discharging their duties are very important and prerequisite to have sustainable and harmonious relationship between the police and media. Journalists Abul Momen said media or police could not play their desired role in a divided and disintegrated society unless major segment of the population are imbued with the spirit of morality or given moral lessons in all spheres of life from family level to professional stage.

He said a massive social reform movement is urgently needed to establish a dignified and human-rights based society.
