3 bank accounts of Ctg Custom House freezed

Chittagong Correspondent, Chittagong

Three bank accounts of Chittagong Custom House (CCH) have been made inoperative on Friday on charge of court disobedience.

The court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge in an order issued on Friday afternoon blocked the accounts of the import wing of the customs at CCH branch of the Sonali Bank Limited.

The court in its verdict on February 28, 2007 asked Chittagong Customs House to return the attached fishing boats or pay Taka six million as compensation to the boat owner Bijoy Krishno within 60 days of delivering the verdict.

But the CCH men did neither return the fishing boats nor pay the compensation. The plaintiff at this stage sought legal protection and execution of the verdict.

Responding the petition of the plaintiff the court on April 1 ordered attachment of assets at the office of Customs Commissioner (Import) Mohammad Nasir Uddin apart from freezing three bank accounts. Three officials went to Custom House on Fridayday to execute the latest court verdict. They, however, did not seize the assets of Customs Commissioner's office (Import) as Commissioner Nasir Uddin had been away. Assets of the commissioner's office will be attached as soon as the commissioner returns to his work. It was learnt that Bijoy Krishno, a trader of fishing boats, went to the court in 1987 against illegitimate attachment of his two fishing boats by customs men.

The court after testifying all records and evidences found the custom's move was not only unlawful but also oppressive.
