Attempt to kill ex-poura commissioner : Arrest warrant issued against Nazimuddin Alam, and 8 other party leaders

Additional chief judicial magistrate of Bhola Julfikar Ali Khan issued. warrant of arrest against Najimuddin Isam, of Bhola from BNP and eight other party leaders and cadres on Thursday last in connection with the exceptional case of attempt to murder of Akhrmul Alam Shami, commissioner of charfashon of Bhola. According to prosecution case the accused persons attempted to kill Shamisujahan league leader and ex commissioner of Charfasson Pourashava in bus stand area on 16th February of 2004 at the order of Majimuddin Alam. They cut off views of legs and hands of Shamsujahan and rejoined openly. Brother of Shamsujahan filed case No 12 with the police of Charfession PS on 18th February but police clue no political influence submitted final report. Subsequently Shami filed no jojection against final report and fihed another case on 11th March of 2007. CID was given the fast of investigation. Subinspector Faruque of CID conducted investigation for five months and submitted charge-sheet against nine person including Najmuddin Alam. Thereafter court issued warrant against the accused persons.
Work on riverbank safety project moving ahead in Gaibandha

The work on 827-metre long river bank and town protection embankment project is progressing fast at Godarhat area and other two points of sadar upazila under district.
Major Dewan Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Commanding Officer of Gaibandha Army Camp, visited the project work at Godarhat point of the upazila yesterday and expressed his satisfaction over the progress of the work.
More than 20 percent work of the project has already been Completed, WDB officials said adding the project would be completed by the June next.
Water Development Board (WDB) is implementing the project at the cost of Taka 5.44 crore with the financial assistance of Asian Development Bank and Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries and the Government of Bangladesh.
6 killed in separate accidents in Jhenidah, Jessore

Three persons were killed in separate accidents at Sadar and Kaliganj upazilas on Monday.
Witnesses and Police sources said a minor boy named Polash, 8, was killed when a passenger bus hit him while he was crossing the road at Putahati point of Jhenaidah-Chuadanga road under Sadar upazila on Monday evening.
In a separate accident a Jessore-bound mini truck hit two persons from behind at Ragunathpur of Jhenaidah-Jessore road under Kaliganj upazila leaving them critically injured. They succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital.
The dead were identified as Kabir Hossain, 25, son of Fazlur Rahman, of Kotwali in Jessore and Tasmina Khatun, 15, daughter of Ajabul Haque of Raghunathpur.
Meanwhile, three persons were killed and 20 others injured when a Khulna-bound passenger bus from Kushtia lost control and hit a roadside tree at Padmabila Khuni crossing on Khulna-Jessore Highway on Monday evening.
The identities of the dead could not be known immediately. Of the injured eight were admitted to Jessore Hospital while others were admitted to different clinics.
A case was filed with concerned police station in this connection.
2 dacoits lynched, 5 injured in Damudya

Enraged villagers lynched two dacoits and injured five others at Dashmanpara under Damudya Upazila in Shariatpur district on Sunday night.
The killed dacoits were identified as Amirul Islam, 22, son of Abdul Gani, of Lakkhhipur village under Muladi upazila of Barisal and Rony, 26, son of Babul Choukider, of Banshdari village under Kalkini upazila of Madaripur district.
The injured dacoits were admitted to Shariatpur General Hospital. They are Chan Mia, Soleman, Russel, Abu Taher. Identity of another injured dacoit could not be known.
Police sources said a gang of dacoits numbering 10 to 12 stormed into the house of one Tota Mia at Dashmanpara village in the early hours of Sunday. When the dacoits were leaving the place with the booty, the inmates of the house raised a hue and cry.
The neighbours came forward in great number and managed to raid seven of the dacoits. At one stage the dacoits in a bid to save life jumped in a pond about three kilometers away from the place where they commit dacoity.
The villagers brought the dacoits out of the pond and gave merciless beating. Police rescued the dacoits and admitted them to Shariatpur General Hospital where two of them succumbed to their injuries.
A case has been filed with Damudya Police Station in this connection.
World Health Day observed in Kishoreganj

The World Health Day '08 was observed in the country as well as the globe on April, 07 to draw attention on Public health challenges.
District Health Department of Kishoreganj organised held a discussion meeting on 'Protecting Health from climate change at Kishoreganj Modern Hospital Conference call on Monday.
Civil Surjeon Dr. Abdul Haque Presided over the discussion and Acting Deputy Commissioner Tapan Chandra Bonik attendent as chief guest. It was addressed among others, by Banamali Bhoumik, Chief Executive officer of Zila Parishad, as special guest, Dr. Deen Mohammad, D.C.S, Md. Mohasin, Dr. Shahidul Islam, Shahawase Dilruba Khan, Sadar UNO and Senior Journalist Md. Abdul Latif.
Civil Surjeon Dr. Abdul Huq said. The Caretaker Government will formulate a new health policy with in three months through modifying the policy which adopted in 2006.
Businessman commits suicide in Jamalpur

A businessman committed suicide by throwing himself under a speeding train at Islampur railway station on Sunday night.
The dead was identified as Pankaj Kumar Kundu, 32, son of Provat Kundu, of thana road under Islampur upazila in the district. GRP sources said Pankaj Kumar committed suicide jumping under Dewanganj bound train from Dhaka at around 10.20 pm on Sunday.
The reason behind his committing suicide could not be known. Police recovered his body and sent to morgue for autopsy.
Fire service and civil defence week begins Luxmipur

The Fire Service and Civil Defense Week-08 has began in the district on Sunday.
The inaugural function of the week was held on the premises of fire service office here.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (revenue) SM Mainur inaugurated the week as the chief guest. The function was addressed, among others, by Luxmipur acting Pourasabha chairman M Delaware Hossain, additional Police Super A R F Alif, Fire Service and Civil Defence official and local elite.
To observe the week, Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence has chalked out elaborate programmes that included discussion, bringing out processions, distribution of leaflets, displaying posters and publicity through microphone.
10 miscreants held, firearms recovered in Cht

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested eight members of an organized burglars gang and two drug peddlers after conducting separate drives at different parts of the city on April 4.
During the drive, separate squad of the elite force recovered one light gun with a cartridge, two machetes and 96 bottles of Phensidyl.
Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team recovered the firearm and ammunition along with the machetes in an abandoned state from Shitalpur area under Sitakunda upazila in the district on April 3.
Another team of RAB arrested Liton Das, 25, son of Gopal Das of Phultala under Chandgaon thana in the city and Shah Alam alias Mitu, 23, son of Sohel Pervez of Suchiya under Chandanaish upazila in the district along with 96 bottles of Phensidyl from Jubilee Road area under Kotwali thana on April 3.
A RAB team also arrested 8 members of an organised burglars gang in a pre-dawn raid today at Alanker Cinema crossing under Khulshi police in the city. The arrested were identified as Mohammad Jasim, 26, Mohammad Mohiuddin, 28, Mohammad Hanif, 34, Mohammad Habib Shah, 24, Mohammad Rubel, 20, Mohammad Dulal, 33, Mohammad Alauddin, 27, Mohammad Mamun, 25.
Domestic help found dead in Sirajganj

A domestic help was found dead at one Akmal Hossain's house at Khalifa Patti in the town on Sunday night.
Police sources said Ratna, minor daughter of Shaheen Mia of Beparipara of the town, was employed at Akmal's house as a domestic help. The neighbours of Akmal came to know on Sunday night that Ratna was lying on the floor with rope around her neck.
Being informed police and a team of RAB reached the place, but Akmal and his wife Ruli Khatun managed to escape sensing the presence of the law enforcers. It was alleged that Akmal and his wife used to beat Ratana very often.
Police sent the body of Ratna to Sirajganj General Hospital for autopsy.
3 hundi traders arrested in Kishoreganj

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three hundi traders along with Taka 69,67,100 from Bhairab Bazar area in the district on Sunday.
The arrested were identified as Shahirul, Nurul Islam and Alauddin.
Police said on secrete information a RAB team raided a Sylhet bound passengers bus from Bhairab and arrested them along with the money.
A case was filed with concerned thana in this connection.
Female drug peddler held in Comilla

Police arrested a female drug trafficker along with 32 bottles of phensidyl from Shashongachha bus stand in the district town on Monday. The arrested woman was identified as Nargis Begum.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police arrested the drug trafficker and seized phensidyl from her possession.
A case was filed against her in this connection.
Bar Assoc polls held in Rajshahi

Mohammad Yahya and Nazmus Sadat have been elected as president and general secretary respectively in the Rajshahi Bar Association election held yesterday.
Other elected office-bearers are: Vice-presidents Ershad Ali Isha, Entajul Haque Babu and Abdul Muttalib, joint secretaries Sanwar Kabir Khan and Masum Akter Tipu, treasurer Nazmul Haque Mintu, librarian Abu Bakar, audit Shamsul Haque, press and information Mahmudur Rahman Ruman, magazine and culture Rajab Ali and members Mutasim Billah, Shahsul Alam-1, Dewan Abdul Khaleque, Aftabur Rahman, Habibur Rahman-3, Momtaj Uddin Ahmed, Adib Imam Dalim, Ejajul Haque and Moloy Kumar Ghosh.
A total of 430 voters out of a total 453 cast their votes in the election.
Eight arrested in Chittagong

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested eight persons for their suspicious movements from Alankar area in the city on Friday.
The arrested were identified as Mohiuddin, Jashim, Hanif, Rubel, Dulal, Alauddin and Mamun.
RAB sources said on primary enquiry they confessed that they were the members of a criminal gang and involved with various wrongdoing like stealing, forgery and pick pocketing.
The elite force also said after looting of a house at Gulshan in Dhaka, the police lodged a case on February 14 and since then the police was trying to apprehend the culprits. Meanwhile, the arrested left Dhaka for Chittagong where were arrested.
Wheat laden truck seized in Madaripur

Police seized 82 sacks of wheat in a truck at Kalkini Upazila in the district on Monday night.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Kalkini Mesbahudin Ahmed said, acting on a tip- off, a team of police conducted the drive and seized the wheat laden truck.
He said the wheat was seized as the local dealer Nuruzzaman has been sending the wheat meant for test relief to a separate destination violating the decision of the district coordination meeting.
According to the decision, the wheat for test relief is supposed to sell Taka 26 per kg within the respective upazila.
A case was filed in this connection.
