IUB gives awards to 326 students BUSINESS REPORT The Independent University, Bangladesh distributed academic awards to 326 students for the academic year 2007. Vice Chancellor Professor Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury gave away the awards at a function held at the university's Baridhara campus yesterday. The awards were given in two categories. The students in the Vice Chancellor's honour list received Tk 10,000/- each and those in the Dean's honour list got Tk 5,000/- each for purchasing books. The total amount spent during the academic year 2007 in various categories of awards, tuition wavers, benefits etc for 1,116 meritorious students is Tk 1.93 crore. Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Omar Rahman and Registrar Dr Tanvir A Khan spoke at the award distribution ceremony. The programme was conducted by the Asst Registrar Ms Mona Rahman. Every year students of the university are given awards in the form of partial and total tuition waivers and other forms of financial benefits which also includes award for purchasing books. The university has also a scheme of scholastic recognition of students in their diploma as 'Summa Cum Laude', 'Megna Cum Laude' and 'Cum Laude' for meritorious students. Apart from this, the university under its campus job scheme provides part-time jobs to students in its various schools, registrar's office, libraries and other departments.
