Krishi Bank's new officers urged to work with sincerity

Foundation training programme of 404 newly recruited probationary officers of Bangladesh Krishi Bank has started. Khondker Ibrahim Khaled, Chairman of the bank, and veteran banker and columnist, inaugurated the programme on April 6 last as the chief guest at Bangladesh Krishi Bank Training Institute Auditorium, Mirpur in the city.

Md. Mukter Hussain, Managing Director of the bank was the special guest on the occasion.

Deputy Managing Directors M. Fazlul Hoque, Md. Nurul Huda Chowdhury and other high-level officials of the bank were also present.

At the inaugural function, Khondker Ibrahim Khaled termed the joining of a huge number of highly educated young officers as an important milestone in the history of Krishi Bank.

He expressed the hope that the bank would go ahead with the new generation officers.

He also urged the young officers to participate in the development activities of the country by devoting themselves to the service of Krishi Bank.

Md. Mukter Hussain welcoming the newly recruited officers said that the BKB would be successful in running the modern banking activities with the help of the knowledgeable and new approaches of the new generation officers.

Southeast Bank holds workshop on forex transactions principles

Southeast Bank Limited organised a workshop on 'Basic Principles of Foreign Exchange Transactions and Audit Compliance' recently.

Syed Imtiaz Hasib Deputy Managing Director of Southeast Bank Limited inaugurated the workshop and emphasised the need for correct understanding on the principles of foreign exchange transactions to facilitate foreign trade payment and settle international trade disputes effectively.

He particularly urged upon the participants to ensure accurate reporting of foreign exchange transactions and develop a standard checklist towards full regulatory compliances for ensuring efficient clientele service.

2nd Meditex Bangladesh begins Friday

A three-day long 2nd International Meditex Bangladesh 2008 and Pharma Bangladesh 2008 exhibition will begin from Friday at Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre in the city.

National Prof MR Khan will inaugurate the exhibition as the chief guest, while Dr Md Suhrab Ali will be present as special guest.

A total of 49 medical equipments, surgical instruments, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and hospital equipments and suppliers companies from home and abroad will display their products at the 120 stalls of the exhibition.

The Conference and Exhibition Management Services (CEMS) Limited organised the three-day long exhibition.

Of the 49 companies, seven companies will come from China, India, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Taiwan, USA and Singapore to participate the exhibition, Meherun N Islam, managing director of the CEMS and also the organiser of the fair said at a press conference held a hotel in the city yesterday.

She said that the visitors would enter the exhibition from 10:00am to 7.30pm without entry fees.

Shahid S Sarwar, director of Gloal Opration of CEMS was present at the press conference. The exhibition will be concluded on April 13.

Al-Arafah Islami Bank holds Executive Committee meeting

The 213th meeting of the Executive Committee of Al-Arafah Islami Bank Ltd was held at its head office on April 5 last.

Alhaj Abdus Samad, Chairman of the Executive Committee presided over the meeting. The meeting reviewed the overall business and investment position of the bank.

Standard Bank holds 124th board meeting

The 124th Board Meeting of Standard Bank Ltd was held on April 3 last at the head office of the bank. Chairman of the Board of Directors Kazi Akramuddin Ahmed presided over the meeting.

It was attended by Vice-Chairman Alhaj Mohammad Shamsul Alam, Directors Kamal Mostafa Chowdhury, Abdul Ahad, Alhaj Nurul Haque Sowdagor, Ferdous Ali Khan and Md. Ziaul Haque Khondker.

Among others, Managing Director Mosharraf Hossain, DMD S.A. Farooqui and EVP and Board Secretary AFM Nizamul Islam Chowdhury were present at the meeting.

The Board took various important decisions regarding bank's investment policy in the field of trade, commerce and industries and approved proposals received from different branches in respect of financing of working capital for industries and other import, export and commercial trading businesses.

IUB gives awards to 326 students

The Independent University, Bangladesh distributed academic awards to 326 students for the academic year 2007.

Vice Chancellor Professor Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury gave away the awards at a function held at the university's Baridhara campus yesterday.

The awards were given in two categories. The students in the Vice Chancellor's honour list received Tk 10,000/- each and those in the Dean's honour list got Tk 5,000/- each for purchasing books.

The total amount spent during the academic year 2007 in various categories of awards, tuition wavers, benefits etc for 1,116 meritorious students is Tk 1.93 crore.

Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Omar Rahman and Registrar Dr Tanvir A Khan spoke at the award distribution ceremony.

The programme was conducted by the Asst Registrar Ms Mona Rahman.

Every year students of the university are given awards in the form of partial and total tuition waivers and other forms of financial benefits which also includes award for purchasing books.

The university has also a scheme of scholastic recognition of students in their diploma as 'Summa Cum Laude', 'Megna Cum Laude' and 'Cum Laude' for meritorious students.

Apart from this, the university under its campus job scheme provides part-time jobs to students in its various schools, registrar's office, libraries and other departments.

Orientation ceremony of new students held at BUBT

The Orientation Ceremony of the newly admitted students of Graduate Programs (Spring, Semester, 2008) of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) was held on April 05 last.

AFM Sarwar Kamal, Chairman of the Syndicate of BUBT was the chief guest on the occasion.

He urged upon the students to utilise the facilities offered by BUBT with the spirit of patriotism.

KDS gets Nat'l Export Trophy



KDS Garment Industries Ltd has been recognised for its outstanding export achievement with the prestigious National Export Trophy (Silver) for the year 2003-04 at an award giving ceremony at the Osmani Memorial Hall in the capital recently. Khalilur Rahman, Chairman and Managing Director of KDS Group received the National Export Trophy from Commerce Advisor Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman.

This is the 20th consecutive time in last 25 years that KDS achieved the National Export Trophy for its outstanding achievement in exporting readymade garments and accessories. Describing his feelings, Alhaj Khalilur Rahman said, 'It is an inspiration to boost up export growth in RMG sector by this recognition from the Bangladesh government. This honour is achieved by them who are working for KDS Group and I am feeling proud of what they have done'.

KDS started exporting its products in the mid-1980s to the USA and EU countries and till now has prestigious clientele like, H&M, Target, Charming Shoppe, JC Penny, Walmart, George-UK, Speedo, Sears Kmart etc.

Rashid Ahamed joins Sunflower Life Insurance Co



Rashid Ahamed joined Sunflower Life Insurance Company Limited as Managing Director with effect from April 1, 2008, says a press release.

Prior to his joining, he was the Deputy Managing Director and Managing Director (Current Charge) of the company.
