3 get life-term for killing in Ctg

A sessions court in the port city sentenced three persons to life-term imprisonment in a murder case yesterday.

Four other accused in the case were acquitted as the charges brought against them could not be proved beyond doubt.

The verdict came after 19 years of the incident. The court of Chittagong second Additional District and Sessions' Judge pronounced the verdict in a jam-packed courtroom yesterday.

Judge Shamsur Rahman delivered the verdict. The convicts are Abul Kalam, Junu Mia and Abul Hashem. Abul Hashem is still absconding while Abul Kalam and Junu Mia are in jail.

The acquitted persons are identified as Raja Mia, Mohammad Abul Kalam, Nurul Amin and Nurul Alam.

Public Prosecutor Enamul Haque told the reporters that Abu Taher was killed on November 14, 1989 at Sitakund.

Taher's brother Abdur Razzak in connection with the murder filed a case on November 23, 1989. Charge sheet of the case was submitted on August 22, 1990.
