Police arrested a total of 88 persons, including suspected criminals, from different places throughout the district in separate drives conducted in the area recently.

The arrested persons include absconding warrantees, accused in different cases, dacoits, brokers, drug-peddlers and traffickers, gamblers, antisocial elements, thieves and suspecial criminals.

Police also seized huge guantities of smugled ganja, fermented wine and phensidyl, stolen goods and other illegal things during the raids.

Police arrested drug traffickers Siraj, 42, with 200-gram ganja, Jewell, 23, with 250-gram ganja, Mokbul, 30, with mini ganja packs and other suspected criminals and seized phensidyl and narcotics substances from different places during the period.

Of them, Kotwali police arrested 20 persons, Gangachara eight, Taraganj two, Badarganj eight, Mithapukur 20, Pirganj 17, Pirgacha five, Kawnia seven and DB police arrested one person during the period.

The arrested persons were sent to jail hajat when police produced them before the concerned Rangpur courts, the sources said.
