Motorcycle owner killed

Sherpur, Mar 30: Terrorists hijacked a motorcycle after killing its owner at Shimultali village in Nalitabari upazila on Saturday night. On information, police recovered the body of Nur Islam alias Nur Miah, 30, at Duhuria on Nalitabari-Sherpur highway Sunday morning. Police suspected that the hijackers hired the motorcycle of Nur Miah, who used to earn by giving his motorcycle on rent, at night. On the way, the hijackers strangulated and stabbed Nur Miah to death and fled the scene along with the motorcycle, they said. A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB.



Terrorists held, arms seized

Khulna, Mar 30: Police arrested five terrorists alongwith arms and ammunitions from Kapilmuni area in Paikgachha upazila on Sunday. Police arrested Tuku Sardar, Aslam Sardar, Jahangir Hossain, Rafiqul Sardar and Rafiqul Morol from the house of Tuku Sardar during the four-hour raid began from 11am. During the drive, they also recovered one revolver, five bullets and some sharp weapons from the house. Police said all the arrested were accused of different cases for their involvement with terrorism and robbery, reports UNB.



Youth beaten to death in Dinajpur

Dinajpur, Mar 30: A youth was beaten to death by his friends over a trifling matter at Fakirpara Moholla in the district town Saturday night. The dead was identified as Hamidul Islam, 18, son of Noor Alam of the area. Local sources said Hamidul had an altercation with his friends over playing carom at about 9pm. At one stage, they severely beat up Hamidul, leaving him seriously injured. Hamidul was taken to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, reports UNB.



3 held with hemp

Jessore, Mar 30: The officials of Narcotics Control Department in a drive arrested three drug peddlers along with 15kgs of hemp from the old Bus Terminal area of the town Sunday morning. Acting on a tip-off, the officials raided the area at about 7am and arrested Labu alias Sattar, Shahjahan and Alam hailed from Kurigram district. Later, searching their bags the officials recovered the drug. They were handed over to the Kotwali thana, reports UNB.



Fish traders killed

Jessore, Mar 20: Three fish traders were killed and a 'Nasiman' driver was critically injured when a bus rammed into the shallow engine-run three wheeler at Sharsha bazar on Jessore-Benapole highway Sunday morning. The deceased were identified as Sirajul Islam, 40, and his cousins Hazrat Ali, 45, and Mati, 32, of Kannyadaha village in Sharsha upazila. Witnesses said a Benapole-bound bus dashed the Jhikargachha-bound Nasiman of the three fish traders at about 8:30am while they were going to Jhikargachha bazar to sell fish, killing Sirajul Islam, 40, and Hazrat Ali, 45, on the spot and injuring Mati and the driver critically, reports UNB.



Khas land reclaimed

Khulna, Mar 30: The district administration in their eviction drive reclaimed some 106.77 acres of khas land worth Tk 100 crore from land grabbers in nine upazilas of the district last year. The drives that begun in January 2007 also reclaimed a BADC fertilizer godown captured by some influential people and lands occupied by Shah Newas Sea Food Ltd. Khulna Deputy Commissioner (DC) SM Firoj Alam said that during the drive the administration also evicted a total of 472 land grabbers from the occupied lands in the city. ficials said the drive is now being conducted to demolish illegal structures from the banks of Mayur and Bhairab rivers flowing through the city, reports UNB.
