Independence Day celebrated in Khulna

The Independence and National Day was celebrated in Khulna in a befitting manner.

The day's programmes include placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, hoisting the national flag atop all important public and private buildings, holding discussions, cultural functions, march-past and reception to freedom fighters, and bringing out processions.

The day's programme began with heralding a 21-gun salute at one-minute past midnight last night at Collectorate Bhaban here. The programme was followed by placing wreaths at Gallamari Shahid Smriti Shoudha by district administration and different organisations.

An attractive march-past, physical exercises and colorful display was organised at Khulna Stadium. Members from police, Ansar, village defense force (VDP), Fire Service, Bangladesh National Cadet Core (BNCC) as well as Girls Guide, Scouts, and children and juveniles from different educational took part in the display.

Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Yunusur Rahman chaired the function, where deputy inspector general (DIG) in charge of Khulna Range Mohammad Asaduzzman Miah and senior district administration and police officials were present.

A reception was also accorded to the family members of the martyrs, while the ships of the Naval Force were kept open for the visits to the general masses.

The days programmes also included: hoisting the national flag atop all important public buildings, arranging doa mahfil and special prayers at mosques, temples, churches and other places of worships seeking peace and progress of the country.

Films based on Liberation War were screened and a friendly football match was organised to mark the day.
