Union parishad chairmen of five districts of greater Faridpur demanded holding of local body elections before the national election.

They made the demand at their rally at Jasim Uddin Hall in the town Sunday. Over 700 chairmen of 312 unions in 27 upazilas attended the rally organized by Bangladesh Union Parishad Oikya Jote.

Former FBCCI president Mir Nasir Hossain attended the rally as chief guest. Co-chairman of Bangladesh Union Parishad Oikya Jote Abul Hossain Khan presided.

The UP chairmen accused the MPs and ministers of previous governments for interfering into the activities of union parishad that hampered the development activities.

They demanded of the government to restore the image of Union Parishad and increase the salaries and allowances of UP chairmen.

In his speech Mir Nasir Hossain extended his support to the demands raised by chairmen.
