Four arrested in Kushtia

KUSHTIA, March 28: Police arrested four drug peddlers with 480 bottles of Phensidyl from different parts of the district on Monday. The arrested were identified as Mezer Mandal,30, of Bhajot village under Doulatpur upazila, Saiful, 35, Purbamazampur area under Sadar upazila, Shabiful Islam, 25, Boiragai Char area under Doulatpur upazila and Shariful Islam, 30 of same area. Separate cases were filed under the Drug Act, reports BSS.



One arrested in Jhenidah

JHENAIDAH, Mar 28: Police arrested one person and seized 597 bottles of Phensidyl at Maladharpur Jamtala area under Mohespur upazila here on Tuesday. The arrested person- was identified as Alamgir Mondol,32 son of Gani Mondol of Indorpur village under Chowgacha upazila in Jessore district. Police Super Mohammad Jahangir Hossain said, on secret information a police team raided the area and seized the Phensidyl from two gas cylinders box. A case was filed with respective police station in this connection, reports BSS.



Arms seized in Bandarban

BANDARBAN, March 28: The joint forces in a special drive recovered a foreign-made pistol and 80 bullets of AK-47 from Dukla area under Thanchi upazila of the district on Tuesday. District Administration sources said the firearms and bullets were recovered from a hideout of the terrorists. The terrorists fled to the deep forests sensing the presence of the joint forces. The recovered firearms and bullets were handed over to police, reports BSS.



2 killed in road mishap

Gaibandha, Mar 25: Two people were killed and three others injured in two road accidents in Sundarganj upazila on Monday. In an accident, one Asgar Ali, 70, hailed from Jamondi village, died on the spot when a human hauler hit him from behind when he was crossing the road in BRAC crossing. In another accident, a college student was killed and three other people were injured in a road accident in Bamondanga bazar area in the upazila on Monday. Witnesses said the accident occurred when a bus rammed into a rickshaw van from behind, leaving four people injured. Of them, college student Nigar Chandana, 20, daughter of Azizar Rahman of Bamondanga Railway Colony in the upazila, was admitted to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital where she died, reports UNB.



One gets life for murder

Chuadanga, Mar 25: A court here Monday convicted two people and awarded one of them life term imprisonment and another five years for killing a housewife. Ishaq Ali was awarded life term imprisonment for murder while the another convict, Swakat Ali, awarded five years imprisonment for giving false statement. According to prosecution, Ishaq Ali of Kalupol village of sadar upazila, killed his first wife Ambia Khatun on February 28,2000. He also poured poison into her mouth to prove it a suicide incident. A case was filed. After examining records and 13 witnesses additional session judge Motahar Hossain handed down the verdict, reports UNB.



Top terror held in Barisal

Barisal, Mar 25: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a listed terrorist alongwith arms and ammunitions from Charkawa village in Sadar upazila on Monday. Acting on a tip-off, the RAB team, led by ASP M Shahed, raided the village and arrested Kalu, also former president of Charkawa bus owners' association. Badsha, an associate of Kalu, however managed to flee during the raid. Following his statement, the elite force recovered one pipe gun, one pistol, two bombs, gunpowder, other bomb making materials and some sharp weapons. Kalu was later handed over to Kotwali police. A case was filed against him with the police.
