5 killed, 33 injured in separate incidents in four districts

Two persons were killed and 20 others injured in a road accident in the district on Wednesday.

The dead were identified as Abul Kashem, 50 and Mohammad Riaz, 29.

Police sources said the accident took place when a Charess-on bound passenger bus from Bhola fell into a roadside ditch at Banglabazar area as the bus tried to allow a 'votvoti', a locally assembled motor vehicle, to pass through.

One of the bus passengers Kashem died on the spot while Riaz succumbed to his injuries at Bhola Hospital.

The injured were taken to local hospital and clinic for treatment, the sources said.

Meanwhile, a bus driver was killed and 13 passengers were injured in a road accident near Amirgaon Bazar on the Feni-Maijdi road under Dagonbhuiyan upazila here today.

Police and witnesses said the accident occurred when a Basurhat-bound bus from Feni collided head-on with a truck at 9 AM.

Driver of the bus Nurul Absar, 30, died on the spot and 13 passengers suffered injuries after the bus turned turtle on the road, the sources said.

Family sources said Nurul Absar, son of Nur Nabi of Aziz Fazilpur village under Dagonbhuiyan Pourasabha, was scheduled to go to Saudi Arabia within a couple of days.

BSS, Gopalganj adds: A madrasa student was killed in a road accident in front of Kotalipara Pourasabha office on Monday.

The dead was identified as Aminur Rahman Molla, 15, student of Koykha Qaumi Madrasa under Kotalipara upazila.

Police said, the accident occurred as a motorbike knocked him down when Aminur Rahman was crossing the road in front of Kotalipara Pourasabha leaving him dead on the spot.

Motorbike rider Lalon was seriously injured in the accident and admitted to upazila health complex.

Aminur's brother filed a case with respective police station in this connection.

Meanwhile, a gang of armed robbers killed a trader and looted his money at Durchhari Bazar under Baghaichhari upazila, about 148 kilometres off the district headquarters on Saturday night.

Police sources at Rangamati said the dead was identified as Moju Miah, 70.

Two other traders-Malek and Sukkur received injury as the robbers fired gun shots at them. The two were admitted to Chittagong hospital as their condition deteriorated.

Police said a gang of robbers numbering 30 to 35 equipped with firearms attacked the traders at Durchhari Bazar at around 9 PM on Saturday and looted money from different shops. Police could not ascertain the amount of looted money.

The miscreants gunned down one trader and injured two as they tried to resist them.
