Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5, in anti-crime drives, picked up a fake RAB officer and seized ganja and smuggled goods from different areas in Rangpur and Joypurhat districts during the last 24 hours till Tuesday afternoon, RAB sources here said.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a sudden raid to Lalbagh area in Rangpur town and captured the fake RAB officer identified as Abul Kalam Azad, 38, son of late Omar Ali of Parulia village under Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila, and seized some cheating documents from his possession.

In another sudden raid conducted to another place of the town, another RAB team recovered 1.5 kilograms of ganja in an abandoned condition.

They also seized 64 pieces of smuggled saris valued at around Taka 32,000 during a raid in Pathanpara area under Sadar Upazila of Joypurhat district. However, none could be arrested in this connection.

The arrested person and the seized goods were handed over to the concerned police stations after recording separate cases in these connections.
