Bangla Academy recognises BRAC Bank for its support

BRAC Bank Limited has received recognition from Bangla Academy recently for its support to Amar Ekushey Grontha Mela (Book Fair) 2008.

In line with BRAC Bank's corporate vision and as part of its corporate social responsibility of creating an enlightened Bangladesh, BRAC Bank Limited has participated in Amar Ekushey Grontha Mela 2008 to provide necessary support to Bangla Academy's publication and research activities. In recent Amar Ekushey Grontha Mela 2008, BRAC Bank Limited supported Bangla Academy to organise the most prestigious book fair and also to decorate the venue. BRAC Bank had also set up an ATM booth (Automated Teller Machine) and CDM (Cash Deposit Machine) to facilitate the financial transactions by the participants and visitors in that book fair. In recognition of BRAC Bank's support and participation, Bangla Academy has honored BRAC Bank Limited during the fair closing ceremony, a BRAC Bank press release said.

On behalf of BRAC Bank Limited, Acting Managing Director & CEO Kaiser Tamiz Amin received certificates and memento from Mrs Rasheda K Chowdhury, Adviser to the Caretaker Government for the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Women and Children Affairs and Cultural Affairs. Abedur Rahman Sikder, Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs and other senior officials of the bank were present on the occasion, the press release added.

Sonali Bank holds IT workshop for senior executives

Sonali Bank Limited arranged a three-day-long IT workshop for senior executives at its head office in the city recently. The objective of the workshop was to enrich and update IT based knowledge of the executives.

While inaugurating the workshop the CEO/Managing Director SA Chowdhury said 400 branches of the bank have been computerised, while 100 branches have online banking system. Meantime ATM card has been introduced as a symbol of entering the arena of electronic banking. The knowledge being acquired from the workshop should be utilised in day-to-day works of the executives, Chowdhury further added.

Bangladeshi co to invest $15.6m in Karnaphuli EPZ

M/s. Modiste (Bangladesh) Limited, a Bangladeshi company is going to set up a textile and garments manufacturing industry in the Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone.

This 100 per cent locally owned company will invest US$15.6 million and will produce textile and garments items. The company will create employment opportunity for 1,819 Bangladeshi including seven foreign nationals.

An agreement to this effect was signed between the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority and M/s Modiste (Bangladesh) Limited in BEPZA Complex, Dhaka on March 16. General Manager (Investment Promotion) of BEPZA and Managing Director of M/s Modiste (Bangladesh) Limited signed the lease agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

The Executive Chairman of BEPZA and other officials were present on this occasion.

Best Air gets Excellence Award at Dhaka Travel Mart 2008

Best Air has been awarded the 'Excellence Award' at the recently concluded Dhaka Travel Mart 2008 for its beautiful pavilion and the wonderful performances of the Best Air authorities.

The organiser of the Travel Mart 2008 gave the award to the Best Air authorities.

It may be recalled that Best Aviation Limited announced various attractive facilities for passengers on Dhaka-Chittagong-Dhaka route at its pavilion at Dhaka Travel Mart 2008 held at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel from March 13 to 15. As a result, a large number of visitors crowded the Best Air's pavilion for all the time. Visitors including students, teachers, serviceholders, travel agents and representatives of corporate sector visited the Best Air pavilion and collected information, brochures and gift items. They all showed keen interest to the international flights of Best Air. Best Air is going to introduce its international flights on Dhaka-Bangkok-Dhaka route at the end of current month.

Best Air's took part in the Dhaka Travel Mart 2008 with the slogan of 'Fly Now, Pay Later'. Under this facility, passengers purchased tickets of Dhaka-Chittagong-Dhaka route through special credit cards at zero percent discount. Best Air also offered 'Boarding Alert' and 'Log On' facilities under the SMS Information Centre.

A lottery draw was held among the business cards of the visitors of the Best Air pavilion on the concluding day of the fair. Kazi Wahidul Huq, editor of the Bangladesh Monitor, was present as the chief guest at the lottery draw function.

Besides, TV personality KM Jahangir, Syed Alamgir Haider, Best Air's Marketing, Communications and PR Manager Kawsar Chowdhury, and Sales and Marketing Manager Reazul Islam Reaz, among others, were present.

In the lottery draw, Nasimul Ghani, Max Travel and Akhil Talukder, Image Travels and Tours came out as winners. The winners were given free tickets for traveling with a companion on Best Air's flights at Dhaka-Chittagong-Dhaka route.

Al-Arafah Islami Bank holds board meeting

The 161th meeting of the Board of Directors of Al-Arafah Islami Bank Ltd was held at its head office on March 16 last. Chairman Board of Directors of the Bank Alhaj Md Anowar Hossain presided over the meeting. Among others, Directors of the bank, General Manager Bangladesh Bank Md Amzad Hossain and Managing Director of the bank MA Samad Sheikh were present. The meeting reviewed the overall business position of the bank and took various important decisions.

DBBL's donation to Horizon Primary School, Rangpur

Dutch-Bangia Bank limited (DBBL) has extended financial assistance to Horizon Primary School, Rangpur for providing educational materials to the students of underprivileged group. Dr. Mozammel Hossain Khan, medical consultant of the bank handed over the educational materials to the school's authority recently.

In a discussion meeting organised by school's authority, Dr Khan said that through news published in the daily Prothom Alo, we have been informed that the school has been facing lot of problems due to financial crisis. In response to the news and as a part of the Corporate Social Responsibility, DBBL has stepped forward to stand by the School by donating some educational materials.

The speakers attended the meeting opined that Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited is making every effort to carry out its corporate social responsibility by way of providing diverse philanthropic activities to the distressed humanity of the country.

Among others, Dr Mofizul Islam Montu, chairman of Rongpur Pouroshava, Sekandar Ali, founder of the school Ira Haque and acting head master of the school Ziaul Haque also spoke on the occasion.

Balaka Exchange, IBBL sign remittance deal

Balaka Exchange Pte Ltd, Singapore, a wholly owned subsidiary of National Bank Limited has recently signed a remittance agreement with Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, a press release said.

The remittance agreement was signed to facilitate remittances by the Bangladeshi expatriates residing in Singapore through all the branches of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited by TT and EFT (electronic fund transfer) system to their near and dear ones in Bangladesh.

The ceremony was attended by Md Abdur Rahman Sarker, Managing Director, National Bank Limited, Capt Sohail Hasan, Director, Balaka Exchange Pte Ltd and Md Habibur Rahman, Deputy Executive President and Head of International Banking Wing and Md Siddiqur Rahman, Assistant Vice President and Head of Foreign Remittance Management Division, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited.

Since its inception National Bank Limited has been providing remittance services to the expatriate Bangladeshis living all over the world and achieved remarkable position in the inflow of inward remittance to the country, among the private banks in Bangladesh, the press release further said.

Pink City Xenovalley hands over keys to 21 flat owners

Managing Director of Pink City Xenovalley Alhaj M Salah Uddin handed over the keys to 21 owners of flats at Xenovalley Residential Project at the city's Khilkhet area at a function on March 15 last.

Vice Chairman of Pink City Xenovalley Yasmin Sultana and General Manager, Marketing Monwar Hossain, among others, were present.

Among the flat owners, Md Azizul Bari, Mahmud Ahmed Kawsar, Sheikh Mahmud and Shahabuddin Chowdhury were present.

In his brief speech, Alhaj M Salah Uddin said the Pink City Xenovalley fulfilled its pledges through the handing over of the keys to the flat owners. This trend would also continue in future, he said.
