Acute firewood crisis in Rangpur Our Correspondent, Rangpur Firewood crisis has taken a serious turn in Rangpur district. Sources said firewood crisis is increasing day by day in all the 8 upazilas of the district, affecting the common people. It may be mentioned that one maund of firewood is being sold at taka 240- Taka 300 Taka in different parts of the district. It is very difficult for the commoners to purchase one maund firewood for Taka 240-300. So at present the people of the low-income group are using dry leaves of different trees and bamboos in cooking rice and curry in the district. A large number of poor people are making firewood with cowdung and bamboo sticks. One cylinder of LP gas is being sold at taka 1150 to 1250. So, as the price of gas increased abnormally, the people are using firewood as fuel in cooking their rice and other items.
