Moving on after a break-up

Farizaa Sabreen

When our feelings are hurt or we feel betrayed, the mind begins to play persistent negative tunes. Being "dumped" is agonizing, but how we deal with it will depend on our general attitude to life.

Love is a not one-way exchange; it's a two-way exchange. So leave unrealistic expectations. A break-up can cause deep-seated anger and frustration. When a relationship breaks down doesn't think it as a failure. Don't feel humiliated and embarrassed by a lover leaving us. Worry is one of the greatest reasons of negative thinking and is borne of allowing fear to take over.

Relationship is a fragile thing that breaks for many different reasons. Accept that the relationship has ended because it wasn't going to work. It may hurt because you're ex partner found someone else, or that they just don't see any future with you. But the more time you devote in a relationship that's not going anywhere, the more time you waste.

For some good reason you have to cut ties with your lover and move on with your life. Just because you are breaking up does not mean it will be easy.

When you have been in a bad relationship and perhaps you have been talking about ending it for a long time, end it as soon as possible.

"I don't understand still now, what went wrong in our two years long relationship. Everything was great. We loved tremendously each other and we had discussed future plans. Then, suddenly he changed. He tried to avoid me, he stopped calling and seldom returned my calls. When I asked, "what happened", he gave me different lame excuses about how busy he is or how much family problem he is under right now", said, Shampa, 30, a school teacher.

If you are also stunned over the sudden change in a partner's behaviour, be brave to move on. Individuals who have just broken up with a significant other report this sudden change in a couple's relationship quite a bit. When the behaviour of one or both partners change, it is generally because they have made a conscious or unconscious decision regarding the wrongness of the other for them or for the type of relationship they seek.

Allow yourself few days to cry over the pictures and gifts s/he gave, stay in bed and don't eat and don't go to work. Then get up, wipe your tears, fix your hair and get on with your life. Definitely your friends and family have been wishing you would end the relationship.

In the mean time, you can write to your diary, break things, cry, even go to the places you used to go and cry there. For this allotted hour all you can do with your time is grieve for your break-up. But don't ask their friends how they are doing or don't walk in front of their houses to look for them.

Write yourself a letter telling yourself what things you have learned from this experience.

Learning the best way of dealing with a being dumped will help to you to recover as quickly as possible and prepare you for moving on. Though it is not easy at first, you must face up to what has happened. Always tell yourself that the situation was out of your control, so you are not to blame yourself.

Family and friends can comfort you. They will understand what you are going through. Grieving will help you to get your ex-partner out of your system and is all part of the healing process..

It is very unwise to start trying to get your own back, by phoning him or her up and sending back their gifts once bought for you.

Try to avoid any contact at all with your ex-partner, as you will be feeling exposed at this time and fake hopes of them returning will affect the healing process.

Eat loads of ice cream; be it butter -scotch, pistachio, chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. It--triggers the serotonin and other feel-good chemicals that have plummeted.

Crying is healthy. Cry over the phone late at night with a good friend until the frustration, and pain exhausts you.

Watch hilarious movies. Call up the funniest friend you know and take him or her out for laughs.

Never place all your hopes and dreams in one place. Have a variety of friends and interests in your life so that moving on can be done with the help of a network of loving supporters.

If someone decides they want to leave you, look beyond your own ego and pride to where the other person is coming from. Maybe they have a good reason that you're not aware of and even if they don't, it's their right to leave.

Pamper yourself! What causes your interests? How about some makeover? Spend a weekend in a hilly area or beach. Buy yourself something to cheer yourself up. Spend time doing things that you enjoy, especially any that you didn't do while you were in the relationship with your now ex.

Your ex partner didn't want you and he wasn't worthy of you. You did nothing that necessitates you hiding yourself away! Get out and socialize. Call up friends that you've lost contact with, go out and celebrate your new life as a single person!

Take time before getting into another relationship. Even if you accept and let go all of the emotion tied up with the broken relationship, you still need to wait a little before getting into a new one.

Foster yourself and don't look to others to carry out all your needs. In times of crisis, take time out to grieve and care for yourself as you would a hurting friend.

You will heal, you will love again, but in the meantime, you need to take steps to empower yourselves, attempting wholeheartedly to avoid that misery--which is actually optional. Time can be a great healer.

Staying Fit in the Midst of Chaos

With a PDA in one hand and a triple-shot latte in the other, the driven professionals of X and Y have evolved into a workforce that is constantly on-the-go- yet always expected to be just a ring away.

Determined to be successful, we attempt to meet the demands of our professional and personal lives in some orderly manner-a juggling act that can be incredibly stressful to manage. We have no choice but to multi-task-we have deadlines! And with just 24 hours in the day, something has to give. Sometimes we are simply too busy to hit the gym or squeeze in a healthy home-cooked meal. The Nirvana Woman team can empathize with deadlines and pressure. And this issue, we've tested and put together a list of tips to stay fit and healthy in the midst of chaos.

Start Your Day Off Right

1. Start your day with a To-Do List! Taking just five minutes to jot down what you need to accomplish at the beginning of each day, will likely make you more efficient and productive all day long. Remember to set tangible, achievable goals! Any list with twenty action items just seems too overwhelming to even glace at twice. If you don't manage to cross everything off your list, don't get discouraged. The act of at least acknowledging your action items by writing them down and crossing them off will give you some peace of mind.

2. Put Your Will Power to Use.

If you're going to be sitting at your computer or sitting in meetings for at least eight hours, the last thing you need weighing you down is a load of heavy food sitting in your stomach. Loading up on free office-catered food and snacks will seriously damper your wood and energy level. If you're simply too swamped to bring or produce your own healthier meal option, or must dine out with your colleagues or clients, make an effort to choose a light meal. If you must indulge, try to balance out the extra calories by making a conscious effort to snack on healthy options like fruits and nuts and of course, drink lots of water.

3. Resist The Tempting Short-Cuts

Just because you have deadlines that will make it impossible for you to get to the gym this week, doesn't mean your day has to be exercise-less. A few adjustments in your daily routine can squeeze in the extra strides, steps, and stretches to keep your blood circulation flowing and your body active. Instead of spending five minutes trying to find the parking stop closest to your office front door, park in the lot furthest away and walk to the office. While walking, try to resist the temptation to multitask with your blackberry or cell phone. When you're confined to one office building, try to take the stairs instead of the elevator. Strive to stand up and stretch at least once an hour.

4. Kick up your office strides

Use your lunch break to get out of the office and go for a walk. Skip out on the daily "eat and chat at the cafeteria" routine and munch on your homemade lunch at your desk. Keep a pair of athletic shoes at your desk and find a co-worker to join you in the ritual. This way, you don't have to sacrifice your social hour to fit exercise into your hectic schedule. If you want extra resistance and a faster heat rate, but are too embarrassed to carry dumbbells as you walk around the company campus, carry a bottle of water in each hand (in place of resistant weights).

5. Invest in you.

If you take nutritional supplements like multivitamins and calcium every morning, be consistent. Buy a Monday-Sunday plastic pill holder container and fill it up with your nutritional supplements for the week. Instead of picking up box of 24 disposable water bottles to take with you every day, invest in a durable polycarbonate water bottle and throw it into your office bag. Polycarbonate water bottles usually hold about 32 FL oz of water, which is more than twice the amount held by a regular disposable plastic water bottle and as a result, you end up drinking a lot more water through the day without even really realizing it.

6. Leave room in your schedule to breath.

With technology at its highest, it's easy to never stop working. We have treos, internet, our passions in addition to our paid positions, and it is hard to slow down and breath. We know that yoga or an exercise class would be good for us, but we think we don't have the time. Challenge yourself to make the time. Investing an hour in yoga or even meeting a friend for tea, while leaving your laptop and portable devices at home, will ultimately help give you a sense of balance.

A Noisy laugh or an exquisite smile?

“Smile is the most beautiful weapon of life. Smile to the one you love so he can open his soul to you; smile to the one you hate so he can’t feel the coldness inside your heart; smile to the one who offended you so he can’t feel it hurts you” … true and inspired words … but I wonder if you ever asked yourself what does it hides or reveals a smile?! … if there’s a difference between a laugh and a smile?! … why some people prefer to smile instead of laughing?!

“Smile is the most beautiful weapon … ”indeed … so there’s something “dangerous” about it…but in what way? We could say that laugh and smile are tight ”relatives”, but they act on different bases. The laugh is generally spontaneous which means that it’s less controlled and more sincere. A smile doesn’t appear on our face “by accident” because it’s more psychologically structured and rather hard to be analyzed…unless you are a fine observer to instantly make the difference between a fake and a genuine smile. So if laughing it’s a soul’s state, smiling it’s a mind’s one … if laughing seems to be a direct and sometimes unpredicted manner to approach someone, smiling becomes a diplomatic way to interact.

Paying attention to various discussions between people or hearing part of theirs opinions, I remarked two aspects. On one hand, that many of us are more drawn to people who smile and we prefer their company. Further more, the same us seem to judge a non-smiling face as a negative and less appreciated expression … but how many of us asked ourselves even once if that non-smiling face isn’t more honest than a smiling one?!

On the other hand, we consider the smile an appropriate method “to communicate” with strangers because we tell ourselves that the other one will see this as a sign of openness while we are “snooping” inside his intimacy without “being caught”. Do you remember a situation when someone you hardly know smiled to you all the time and you told him personal things thinking “what a nice person”?!

Without sleeping into the pessimistic extreme, I usually am more precautious with persons who show me an instantly, easy and “free” smile … and even more if they are strangers … Back in time maybe I would’ve believe in a smile without finding a reason, but today you can’t be sure why someone is smiling to you!

It’s tested that the laugh/smile couple maintain us happy and healthy…idea also sustained by the phrase “a laugh a day keeps the doctor away”… but when we are permanently surrounded by all kind of people it’s “healthier” to be at least a little bit suspicious about a “smiling face”. Since not even the famous smile of Mona Lisa can be “trusted” we can’t suddenly have faith on someone’s smile…why?! … according to the professor Margaret Livingstone from Harvard University her smile becomes obvious only when you look at other parts of the painting and not straight to her face … Well, a smile is “mysteriously ambiguous” from a legendary one to a common one.

On my opinion a smiling face will pass the authenticity test when it will be able to offer me one laugh, especially if that person it’s a women. I’m not doing any discrimination, but the psychologist Julie Woodzicka discovered that women tend to fake smiles more than men do and are more aware of these smiles. Men, don’t jump to those conclusions you adore, because women smile more to appease an uncomfortable situations.

A smile to the right … a smile to the left … truth?! … disguise?! … women … men … So after all, what do you like better: a noisy laugh or an exquisite smile?! - Psychologist, Nicoleta Cramaruc

Beautify your pet with proper grooming and health care

Like people, animals tend to look better when they're in good heath. Annual checkups at the vet are important, and keeping nails trimmed helps dogs and cats maintain the health of their feet and pads. Especially with cats, trimming nails on a regular basis is important not only to keep nails from splitting and tearing, but because it keeps your cat from forgetting what its like to have a Pawdicure. If you clip your cat's nails once a month and make it part of a regular routine, the cat will struggle less than if you only do it once in awhile.

Inadequacies in diet can show up in your pet's fur. Healthy fur is glossy or fluffy, thick and filled-in. When cats or dogs aren't getting the nutrition they need, their fur may get patchy, rough or dull. Stress can also cause an animal's fur to fall out.

If you suspect that your pet's diet may not be all it should, you can try switching foods, or supplement the regular food with vitamins. Don't rely on treats to provide added nutrition: many treats are the canine-feline equivalent of a bag of Cheetohs.

Anti-flea and tick medications as well as heartworm prevention are necessary for keeping pets healthy. Modern medicines like Advantage can be administered once a month, making it easy to keep your pet safe from parasites.

Grooming and Pet Hair Care

Like hair-brushing for people, regular grooming can help cats and dogs look their best. Brushing distributes natural oils, removes knots and tangles, and also gives your pet some additional, loving contact. Ideally, brush your pets every day, making sure to be on the lookout for ticks or fleas. Even with one-weekly brushing, you'll see a difference in their coats. Additionally, brushing cats and dogs helps keep the fur-shedding down, resulting in a slightly cleaner house and a less frumpy animal.

If you start bathing your puppy while he's young, you'll have a better chance of teaching him that bathing is fun, not torture. A few dogs never get to enjoying a bath, but most dogs love water and will tolerate a certain amount of shampoo. Some dogs love to be bathed, which makes it an easy chore. Outdoor dogs need bathing more often than indoor dogs.

After bathing with a gentle pet shampoo, dry your dog as well as you can with a fluffy towel, and, for a more efficient drying, let him shake the water off several times. If it's cold outside, keep him inside until he's dry: dogs and cats can get chilled and sick just like people do. Besides, if he goes outside, he's likely to roll in dirt to get back that outdoors-doggie smell the bath removed, and you may as well have never bathed him in the first place.

Cats shouldn't be bathed unless unusual circumstances that result in a really, intolerably filthy cat. Even then, expect to be scratched and bitten, and for the bathing to last under ten seconds.
