Nine killed in road mishaps

Nine people were killed and over 10 others injured, five of them critically, in separate road accidents at Tangail and Madaripur districts on Tuesday.

In Tangail, five persons were killed and 10 others injured in two separate accidents at Pathailkandhi, eastern part of Jamuna Bridge and Namdar Kumudini under Basail upazila.

The first accident took place at Pathailkandhi when a iron laden truck fell into a road side ditch as the driver of the vehicle lost control over the steering resulting four workers died on the spot.

Of them, two identified as Azizul Islam, 38 and Abu Rahian, 35, but identity of the rest two could not be known immediately.

In another accident, one person died when a sand laden truck also fell into a road side ditch while giving side to a passenger bus. The victim identified as Anowar, a sand labour.

During the accidents, 10 persons were injured, five of them critically and admitted into different hospitals at Tangail district.

Separate cases were filed with respective police stations in these connections.

In Madaripur, four persons including woman and children were killed in separate incidents at Madaripur sadar, Rajoir and Shibchhar upazilla during the last 24 hours.

The victims identified as Shohag, 16, a brick labour, Golapi, 40, Abdul Malek Bepari, 48, minor boy Raju, 4.

Separate cases were filed in respective police stations in those incidents.
