Tribute paid to Begum Rokeya Former Adviser to Caretaker Government, Sultana Kamal yesterday said, "Begum Rokeya worked for the awakening of the entire nation not only for the emancipation of women in the society." She was addressing a discussion session on " Role of Begum Rokeya in the awakening of women" organised by "Weekly North Bengal Express" at the national Press Club in Dhaka. Sultana Kamal said, "It's sad when I see Begum Rokeya is treated only as the symbol for renaissance of Muslim women. We have to remember she worked for all womenfolk and especially for the downtrodden Muslim women since they were more backward." "Begum Rokeya worked for brotherhood, peace, harmony, family relations and even living in the remote areas she talked about solar energy about 100 years ago which still is unknown to many." SM Bari, Editor Weekly North Bengal Express, presided over the meeting that was addressed by Gias Kamal Chowdhury, Editor, Khabar Patra, Mostafa Kamal Majumder, Editor, The New Nation, Obaidul Qader Chowdhury, ED, Alap Communication, Dil Afroz Chowdhury, Women Watch, Bangladesh and Moniruzzaman Bhuyia, Child Specialist of Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital. Weekly North Bengal honoured a number of high achievers in different fields. They included Gias Kamal Chowdhury and famous filmmaker Subhas Dutta.
