Police and NGO workers with the help local Union Parisad chairman foiled a marriage ceremony of an underaged girl at Krishnopur village under Alamdanga Upazila of the district on Thursday.

Police said one Anwar Hossain of the village arranged marriage of his 13-year old daughter, Afria Ferdous China, who is a student of class eight of a local school with one Khokon of Daulatdiar village under Chuadanga Sadar Upazila of the district.

On getting information about the marriage, police and local NGO activists rushed to the spot and manage to stop the arrangement by convincing both the parties understand that forcing the girl bellow 18 to get married is punishable under law.
