Experts at a day-long follow- up meeting here on Saturday stressed the need for creating mass public awareness about programmes on tuberculosis for eradication of the disease successfully.

They also underscored the need for bringing tuberculosis patients under the direct observe treatment short- course (DOTS) programme as the method has been proved to be very effective in the country.

The Rangpur-Dinajpur Rural Service (RDRS) organised the follow-up meeting in the auditorium of Roumari Upazila Health Complex in Kurigram district.

Assistant Manager of RDRS Bidhu Bhusan Roy, its area manager Asaduzzaman Khondker, all UP chairmen and members, upazila level government officials, members of the upazila DOTS committee, journalists, elite, teachers, among others, addressed the meeting.

The speakers disclosed the information that 177 TB patients were detected last year in the upazila. Of the patients, 144 were totally cured and the rest 33 adopting DOTS method of the treatment.
