The ships of Bangladesh Navy in 54 raids since February 10, 2008 have impounded around 57,11,540 meter fishing dragnets worth about Taka 30 crore from Chittagong and Khulna zones.

The fishing nets were destroyed in presence of the officials of local administration, law enforcing agencies and department of fisheries, an ISPR press release said.

Ten contingents in five navy ships are actively taking part in the raids as part of the drive "Operation Jhatka" to protect the Hilsha fishes which will continue till May 31.

Apart from seizing the dragnets, the navy contingents are relentlessly campaigning against the impact of catching Hilsha fries among coastal fishermen.
