News Brief 10,000 fowls culled, 29,250 eggs destroyed in Thakurgaon THAKURGAON, Feb 26: Around 10,000 fowls were annihilated and 29,250 eggs destroyed at Jagatha village in Pirganj Upazila in last few hours till on Sunday morning following the detection of deadly H5N1 virus. After the detection of bird flu in the farm of Rafiqul Islam in Jagatha, Livestock officials and local administration, in a joint drive, culled 9,189 chickens and destroyed 29,250 eggs of the farm. Later, the team also culled over 500 chickens and ducks of the farms of other villagers located within the 1-km radius of the farm. The local administration imposed ban on selling chickens and eggs for next three months issuing red alert in the area, reports UNB. BSF return bodies of two Bangladeshi cattle traders THAKURGAON, Feb 26: The bodies of two Bangladeshi cattle traders, killed in BSF firing near Mondumala border in Baliadangi Upazila, were return on Sunday morning. Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over the bodies of Afajuddin and Faruk Hossain to Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) after a commander-level flag meeting at Zeno Line of the frontier area at about 12 PM. BSF members from Sonamoti Camp sprayed bullets on a group of cattle traders at about 4 AM on Saturday when they crossed the border, killing Afajuddin and Faruk on the spot and wounding Fajir Ali, reports UNB. Dockyard worker stabbed to death KERANIGANJ, Feb 26: Assailants stabbed a dockyard worker to death in south Keraniganj on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Mizanur Rahman, 32, worker of Kaliganj Dockyard. Local sources said Mizan came under attack at Khejurbagh area at about 11 PM while returning home from his working place. The assailants, numbering 4/5, stabbed Mizan indiscriminately, killing him on the spot. Patrol Police team of South Keraniganj recovered the body early on Sunday, reports UNB. Father hacked to death by son in Comilla COMILLA, Feb 26: A mentally handicapped son allegedly chopped his father to death at Gujra village in Chouddagram Upazila on Sunday. The dead was identified as Abdul Aziz, 55. Police and witnesses said, mentally ill Saleh Ahmed suddenly stabbed his father Aziz with a sharp 'dao' at about 10 AM, leaving him critically injured, reports UNB. Cheat held KHULNA, Feb 26: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrested five members of a gang, including three women, on charge of cheating from Gallahmari area of Khulna City on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-6 raided a computer shop at night and arrested Waliur Rahman, 28, Abdul Aziz, 26, Bina Begum, 22, Jabeda Begum, 28, and Parul Begum, 25, along with four sophisticated computer and other valuables worth about Tk 3 lakh. RAB sources said the gang members took huge money from many local people in the name of arranging marriage with expatriate affluent women living in America, Britain and other countries. A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB. Sand supplier killed NARSINGDI, Feb 26: Unidentified assailants hacked a sand supplier to death at Mulpara village in Sadar Upazila on Saturday night. The dead was identified as Hafiz Ahmed Bidyut, 35, son of Delwar Hossain. Police said the miscreants called Hafiz, a local sand supplier, out of his Satirpara residence in the town at about 11:30 PM and took him to Mulpara village. Later, they stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot, reports UNB.
