The High Court Division of the Supreme Court yesterday declared the appointment of Habibul Awal as acting Law Secretary illegal.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Shah Abu Nayeem Mominur Rahman and Justice Shahidul Islam declared his appointment illegal as it was not made following the appropriate rules and procedure.

Aftab Uddin, a former district and sessions judge, filed a writ petition on July 5 last year challenging the legality of the appointment of Habibul Awal as acting secretary of the Ministry of Law.
