Warm clothes distributed among cold-hit people in Naogaon

Naogaon district army camp distributed warm cloths among the cold-hid affected distressed at a function held on Manda Upazila Parishad premises. Manda Upazila Nirbahai Officer Bipul Chandra Biswas was in the chair while Commander of Naogaon district army camp Lt. Col. Shamim Ahsan Zakdul and president of Naogaon district Chamber of Commerce Industry Al-Haj Md. Shamsul Huq attended as chief guest and special guest respectively. The warm cloths were distributed among fifty freedom fighters and 350 cold-affected people.

Later Tk. 5000 in cash distributed among four meritorious students each. Chairmen and members of Union Parishad, elite of persons, journalists were then present.

The army camp Commander Lt. Col. Shamin Ahsan Zakdul PSC distributed cloths and blankets among the 150 disabled persons at the army camp premises.

Deputy Commander Major Sayeed distributed the warm cloths held on Mohadevpur Upazila Parishad.

Naogaon district Chamber of Commerce & Industry handed over 1610 pieces of wrappers and 200 blankets to the district army camp commander.

Naogaon police also distributed blankets and wrappers among the poor people on Sadar Thana presides in a simple ceremony.

Police Sperintendent Sardar Nurul Ameen inaugurated it as chief guest.

Chairman of Naogaon Pourashava Abul Kassem Akanda distributed warm cloths and wrappers among 700 (seven hundred) cold affected poors, held on Pourashave premises in a simple ceremony.

44 arrested on various charges in four districts

Members of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) in two anti drug drives in the bordering areas of Birampur upazila arrested five drug smugglers and seized 290 bottles of phensidyl from their possession on Thursday.

BDR sources said that members of the border guards conducted a drive at Rail Ghunti at Birampur in the early hours of Thursday and arrested three women on suspicion. After searching their body they recovered 150 bottles of phensidyl.

In a separate drive at Bijul Bazar on Birampur-Gobindganj road the BDR jawans intercepted a Bogra bound bus from Dinajpur and seized 140 bottles of phensidyl from two passengers of the bus.

The arrested persons were identified as Bijli, 35, Hosne Ara, 32, Shahida, 28, Joynul Abedin, 40, and Monirul, 30.

The arrested were handed over to Birampur thana police.

BSS Satkhira adds : The members of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) arrested one person with 524 grams of gold worth about Taka 11.42 lakh from the Registry office area of the town.

The arrested was identified as Monirul Islam Babu, 18, of Katia village under sadar upazila of the district.

BDR sources said, a mobile team of BDR conducted the raid on the basis of secret information and arrested the man.

The BDR recovered 524 grams of gold after searching the body of Monirul Islam Babu.

A case was filed with sadar thana in this connection.

Meanwile, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in separate drives, arrested seven female drug-paddlers and recovered 243 bottles of phensidyl from different places of Panchbibi upazila in the district on Wednesday.

RAB sources said, acting on tips off, a team of the elite force raided Manik Bazar and Tantipara area under the upazila and arrested the women along with the phensidyl.

Of them, Jamila, 40, Buli Begum, 42, Minara Begum, 35, and Dulali, 38, were arrested with 189 bottles of phensidyl from Manik Bazar.

In another drive, Papiya, 20, Lili, 27, and Rajeka, 25, with 54 bottles of phensidyl from Tantipara.

Besides, RAB recovered 160 steel-plates as an abandoned condition near Panchbibi bus stand on the same day.

BSS Rajshahi adds: Police arrested 31 persons including three alleged drug-peddlers on various charges from different areas in city and nine Upazilas of the district on Wednesday.

police sources said, of them nine including the drug-peddlers were picked up from different areas in the metropolis while 22 others from nine upazilas of the district.

Police arrested drug-peddlers identified as Saidul Islam, 28, Shamsher Ali, 60, and Nazimuddin, 25, and seized 200 bottles of phensidyl, 203 grams of heroin and 1.25 kilograms of ganja during five separate raids at different places in the district.

After recording separate cases in these connections the arrested persons and the seized goods were sent to the court.

Traffic police lodged 35 cases under the motor vehicles ordinance and seized two motorbikes and a truck for either without registration during drives against the non-registered motor vehicles during the time.

31 dev projects in Kalai Poura implemented

Kalai Pourasabha in Joypurhat district has implemented 31 projects at a cost of Taka 2.51 crore during the current fiscal year.

Pourasabha sources said 18 more projects under the annual development programme will be completed during the project period. The total cost of the projects will be Taka 54.50 lakh.

The projects included construction of roads, drains, religious places and other repair works.

Under the Bangladesh Municipality Development Fund, five projects have already implemented at a cost of Taka 1.34 crore, which included road carpeting and building construction.

Besides, under the Upazila town development programme eight projects have been undertaken with an estimated cost of Taka 62.55 lakh. Of them works of two projects will be completed during the month of February.

Number of voters drops significantly in Jamalpur

The number of voters have dropped in Islampur upazila under the district, according to the just completed new voterlist along with photographs.

A total of 1 lakh 72 thousand 177 voters have been enlisted in the new voter list compared to the previous number 2 lakh 20 thousand 035 voters, officials of upazila election office said. The work on preparation of voterlist with photographs and national identity card was completed in the Upazila on Wednesday,

The work began on December 17 last year while registration of voters and taking their photographs started on January 6 and January 16 respectively.

A total of 75 centres were set up to conduct the work on the preparation of voterlist along with photographs in one poursashava and 12 unions under the upazila, officials said.

Out of seven upzilas of the district, voterlist work in two other upazilas have already been completed.
