Decision to establish Rangpur University welcomed BSS, Gaibandha The people from all walks of life in the district have welcomed the decision of the Caretaker Government to establish a full-fledged university in Rangpur. The council of advisers at a meeting at Rangpur Circuit House on February 2, with Chief Adviser Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed in the chair, took the decision to set up the university with the aim of facilitating the students of the northern region to receive higher education. Since the decision was announced, the leaders of different professional groups in the district have congratulated the government for taking the decision. M. Wahedunnabi Mintu, Convener, district unit command of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad said, " We are very happy as a long-felt demand of the people of northern districts is going to be fulfilled by the Caretaker government". Shajada Anwarul Quadir, president of Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce and Industry said "It is a good and welfare-oriented decision for the people of Rangpur region. This university will play a vital role in spreading higher education among the students of the northern region". Aminul Islam Golap, Convener of Nagarik Committee, Gaibandha said, "Undoubtedly, it is a good decision for the people of Rangpur region. I would like to see its implementation as early as possible because such a decision was not implemented by the previous governments due to unknown reasons". In this regard, Gaibandha Press Club President M Rabiul Hossain said, " We are eagerly waiting when its (university) academic function will start and our children go to university with festive mood". Talking to many people in the district, it is learnt that the people had been dreaming of a university in this region and this dream is going to be materialised by the Caretaker Government.
