CPU Training Course on Environmental Reporting UNB, Dhaka A 5-day training course on environmental reporting for Bangladesh journalists with the theme "Environment - Reporting the issues currently threatening the globe" kicks off on Sunday in UNB training room. The course, organized by the Commonwealth Press Union (CPU) in partnership with CPU, Bangladesh Section, will be inaugurated by Chief Adviser's Special Assistant for Environment and Forest Ministry Raja Devashish Roy. Amanullah Khan, President CPU, Bangladesh Section and Chairman, UNB will deliver the welcome address while members of CPU, Bangladesh Section, Mahbubul Alam, Editor, The Independent; Mahfuz Anam, Editor, The Daily Star; Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury, Managing Director and Chief Editor, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and Enayetullah Khan, Editor-in-Chief and Chief Executive, United News of Bangladesh (UNB) will address the participants on various environment issues. John Vidal, Environment Editor, The Guardian, London will be the course facilitator. The guest speakers who will deliberate over the next few days are Qamrul Islam Siddiqui, President, Bangladesh Water Partne-rship and former secretary on 'Integrated Water Manage-ment and Environment'; Prof. Anwarul Islam, Chief Executive, Wildlife Trust of Bangladesh (WTB) and Professor, Dept. of Zoology, Dhaka University on 'Conservation Education'; Dr. Atiq A. Rahman, Executive Director, Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies and Member IPCC on 'Climate Change and Environment: The Bangladesh Perspective'; Dr. Ainun Nishat, Country Director of IUCN, on 'Water and Environment', and Samarendra Karmakar, Director, Bangladesh Meteorological Department on 'Cyclone Preparedness'. During the field trip planned for the participants to Dohar, Prof. Quazi Quamruzzaman, Chairman of the Trustee Board, Dhaka Community Hospital and Dr. Babar Kabir, Director, WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygine Project), BRAC will talk to the participants about the arsenic poisoning issue.
