Rise of GMG

With the introduction of B747-300 aircraft to its fleet by GMG, Bangladesh is seeing a new era in our aviation history. This will not only put the GMG into new perspective, it will also uplift the image of Bangladesh in global context which Biman failed in a horrible way. We like to congratulate GMG for a great job done and at the same time like to thank GMG for doing it for Bangladesh.

Having said that, I like to be critical in another perspective; it may sound like a dream today, but today's dream is always a reality tomorrow. We observed the rise of a giant today which will one day replace our national airline.

The mixture of fleet will be difficult one to maintain commercially, but while GMG has to think to get rid of its MD 90s which is very costly to operate, at the same time Biman's F-28s and DC-10s have to take an exit. Seven years earlier when I sent to Shihab Sattar an email to look forward to this day, his unconventional reply to me was a harsh one "Thank you for your unsolicited advice". But I would still like to suggest him this day the same that converting those three DC-10s into full-freighter version for our cargo operation will be a winning decision. I hope the government of the day will be bold enough to take that courageous decision and extend full co-operation to GMG. This is a question of survival, not a time for ego. Once again, congratulations to GMG !
