A mob lynched an alleged robber at Golabaria under Gafargaon Upazila in the district in the early hours of today.

Police said local people caught an unidentified robber, aged about 32, when he was leaving with his accomplices after committing a dacoity in the house of Hedayet Ullah. The people beat him mercilessly, killing him on the spot.

The dacoits looted cash and ornament worth about Taka 2.5 lakh, according to the members of Hedayet's family.

Hedayet, his brother Babul Miah and two other inmates of the house were injured in the dacoits' attack.

Critically injured Hedayet was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and Babul to Gafargaon Upazila Health Complex.
