News briefs Schoolgirl commits suicide in Goalanda Goalanda (Rajbari), Jan 25: A schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide at her house at Uttar Char Pachuria village here Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Panna Akhter, 10, student of class III of local BRAC run school and daughter of Abdus Samad Mollah of the village. Police quoting local people said Samad Mollah along with his wife and younger son went to attend an invitation at another house of the locality at noon. But despite her fervent request they did not allow Panna to accompany them, reports UNB. Case filed against teacher in Thakurgaon Thakurgaon, Jan 25: A case was filed against the headmistress of Government Girls' High School Halima Khatun for irregularity in the admission test of class III of the school. Senior Assistant Judge (acting) Anwarul Haque in a rule asked the school authorities to show cause by January 27 why the test should not be declared cancelled. Saifur Rahman and Julfikar Ali of the town on Thursday filed the case alleging that their daughters could not be admitted into class III as questions of higher classes included in the admission test. Declaration of results of the test was suspended when several guardians lodged a complaint to a local army camp on January 17. But the results were published next day, reports UNB. Chickens culled Patuakhali, Jan 25: Some 2,646 chickens, ducks and pigeons were culled and 1,140 eggs destroyed in the town Thursday night after detection of Avian Influenza. District Livestock office sources said some crows and chickens died here on Tuesday. Being informed, the livestock official collected sample of some chickens and sent those to Dhaka for laboratory test. As Avian Influenza was detected in the sample after the test 11 teams were formed comprising joint forces and members of district Bird Flu Prevention Committee to conduct operation in the town for culling chickens, reports UNB. Foundation stone laid Savar, Jan 25: The foundation stone of "Gamma Radiation Source Plant Building" was formally laid on the premises of Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE) here Thursday. AERE chairman Dr Safiqul Islam Bhuiyan laid the foundation stone of the building under the project titled "Application of Radiation Technology for Materials Pilot Plants, Institute of Polymer Technology." It is expected that the construction works will be completed by the end of this year, said a press release, reports UNB. Two killed in road mishaps Chuadanga, Jan 25: Two people were killed and 10 others injured in separate road accidents here Wednesday night. Police said the driver of a three-wheeler 'Alamsadhu' lost control over the steering and the vehicle turned turtle on the road while giving side to a truck at Baiddanathpur in Jibannagar uapzila, killing its passenger Nur Hossain, 26, on the spot and injuring 10 others. The injured were admitted to sadar hospital. In another incident, Mobarak Mawla, 60, was killed when a power tiller overturned at Ramdia-Ghashkora road in Alamdanga upazila on the same day, reports UNB. One killed by his brother Bagerhat, Jan 25: A man was killed allegedly by his elder brother at Badura village in Morelganj upazila Wednesday. Police said Anwar Mridha hit his younger brother Salam Mridha with a sharp weapon at one stage of altercation over land dispute in the afternoon. Salam, 55, was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries soon after admission. Deceased's son Rezaul Mridha filed a murder case against his uncle Anwar with the police, reports UNB.
