The 37th death anniversary of Giasuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, a former government official and a noted sports organizer, will be observed on Sunday.

On the occasion, a doa Mahfil and Qurankhwani will be held in Sylhet and Dhaka.

Giasuddin Ahmed, father in-law of Chief Advisor Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed and father of Foreign Advisor Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, died in a road accident on that day in 1971.

He had hold different important posts of the erstwhile British and Pakistan government including secretary in different ministries. He also worked as Commissioner of Dhaka Division, NBR member and chairman of East Pakistan Election Authority.

Late Giasuddin Ahmed was the president of East Pakistan Sports Federation for six years and also played important role as president of then Pakistan Football Federation.
