Monpura SI held for taking bribe

Sub Inspector Rafiqul Islam working in Monpura police station of Bhola caught red handed by Naval Force in Bhola for taking bribe from a trawler owner. Daliluddin Ahmed and Jalal Ahmed, two accused of a murder case arrested by police trying giving bribe to district police super of Barisal.

Sources said, joint forces arrested 20 pirates and recovered four trawlers from the Meghna River estuary under Monpura Upazila of Bhola district on December 28, 2007. Nur Ali Majhi, owner of a recovered trawler contacted with Monpura police to free his boat and SI Rafiqul demanded Tk. 25 thousand as bribe for that. After negotiation Tk. 6 thousand was fixed as speed money for the work and Tk. 3 thousand paid in advance for that by Nur Ali.

Informing the local team of Naval Force deployed in that area while Nur Ali paid rest Tk. 3 thousand to SI Rafiqul, the naval officials caught Rafiqul red handed and recovered pre-marked currency notes from his possession on Monday night. A case has been lodged in this connection against the SI Rafiqul with Monpura police station and sent to Bhola jail on Tuesday.
