Barrister Shafique Ahmed concerned at delay of Kazi Zafarullah's release

UNB, Dhaka

Barrister Shafique Ahmed, the counsel for detained former Awami League presidium member Kazi Zafarullah who got bail from the High Court on January 7, expressed concern over the "dilly-dallying process" by the jail authorities over his release.

Taking to UNB, Barrister Shafique said after furnishing the bail bond by detainee Zafarullah as per the order of the judicial magistrate, there is no provision in any law to keep him in jail.

"This is violation of fundamental rights," Shafique said adding that the stance of the jail authorities is tantamount to contempt of court.

On, January 7, the High Court granted bail to Zafarullah, also an ex-MP, in a fresh case filed against him under the Emergency Power Rules after his re-arrest from the jail gate.

Earlier, he had secured bail from the High Court in connection with all the other cases.
