Army brighten chance to reach final beating BKSP 2-1

UNB, Dhaka

Bangladesh Army brightened the chance to reach the final of the Dhaka Bank Victory Day Hockey Tournament beating their contender BKSP by 2-1 goals at the Maulana Bhasani National Stadium here on Tuesday.

In four league matches, this was the first defeat for BKSP and the third victory for Army, who lost the only match to Sonali Bank.

Bangladesh Army will play against comparatively easier opponent Bangladesh Air Force today (Wednesday) while BKSP face league leaders Sonali Bank SRC on Thursday in their remaining league matches.

Sonali Bank SRC dominated the league with all-win record securing full 12 points while both Bangladesh Army and BKSP follow the leaders with nine points.

The two top teams of the league will play the final on Saturday at 2:45 pm at the same venue.

In the day's vital match, all the three goals came in the first half.

Didar Hossain Chowdhury put Army team ahead in the 15th minute with a field goal (1-0) while Jamil Bin Talib restored the parity for BKSP in the 27th minute, also by a field goal (1-1).

Sanwar Hossain scored the match-winner for Army in the 31st minute by a field goal (2-1).

Today's matches: Bangladesh Army vs Bangladesh Air Force at 1:15 pm, and Bangladesh Navy vs Barnak Samaj at 3:00 pm.
