Cases against Nizami, Mujahid false: Jamaat

BSS, Dhaka

Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh yesterday condemned the filing of a murder case against the party's central leaders including the Ameer Moulana Matiur Rahman Nizami and Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid.

The Jamaat, in a resolution adopted by its Majlish-e-Shura, the highest policy making body on Friday said one Muzaffar Ahmed Khan filed the case on December 17 last after 36 years of the independence against the Jamaat leaders to tarnish their image.

The allegation of killings and arson attacks brought against the leaders in the case is totally false and baseless, the resolution said and added that the case was filed with an ill motive only to harass the Jamaat leaders politically.

The Majlish-e-Shura is of the opinion that the Jamaat leaders have been contributing to the politics of Bangladesh for the last 36 years and played a glorious role in different democratic movements with other political parties including BNP and Awami League, which received appreciation from the countrymen, the resolution said.

Besides, no case or general diary was filed against the leaders during the last 36 years anywhere in the country, the Majlish-e-Shura said.

The Shura further said as cabinet ministers the Jamaat chief and its secretary general ran three ministries during last four- party alliance government and the present government did not bring any charge of corruption or extortion against them.

Jamaat will fight the case through legal means as the party believes in the rule of law, the resolution added.
