Scheme taken to cultivate onion in 16 northern districts UNB, Bogra An extensive scheme has been taken up to bring 63,620 hectares of land under onion cultivation in 16 northern districts with an output target of 3.81 lakh mts. According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, of the total, 27,290 hectares have been cultivated in Pabna, 11,000 hectares in Rajshahi, 3,250 hectares in Noagaon, 4,010 hectares in Natore, 3,210 hectares in Chapainawabganj, 1,705 hectares in Bogra, 1200 hectares in Joypurhat and 1,105 hectares in Sirajganj. Besides, 3,695 hectares have been cultivated in Dinajpur, 1,896 hectares in Rangpur, 1,415 hectares in Gaibandha, 502 hectares in Kurigram, 680 hectares in Lalmonirhat, 855 hectares in Nilphamari, 1,112 hectares in Panchagarh and 695 hectares in Thakurgaon. The farmers are expecting bumper production of onion this year due to suitable weather.
