A court here on Wednesday sentenced five people to life term mprisonment in a murder case.

The court also fined Shah Alam, M Khokan, Abul Kalam Mollah, Mokhles and Faruq Mollah Tk 5,000 each, in default, to suffer one year RI more. All of the convicts are tried in absentia.

Hasan Gazi, an accused of the case, was also acquitted from the case as allegation brought against him could not be proved.

According to the prosecution, the convicts beat Kanchan Ali Bari, 65, to death following a land dispute at Khezurbaria village in Baufal upazila on June 14, 2002.

After examining 18 witnesses, District and Session Judge Abu Bakar pronounced the judgement.
