Spirit of Liberation War can guide us

Bangladesh expatriate community in the United States should energize themselves in the spirit of the Liberation War to stand by their cyclone stricken brothers and sisters in Bangladesh. Victims of Sidr cyclone need their help and the people of Bangladesh deserve their support for the good initiatives currently underway so that Bangladesh could stand as dignified and decent nation before the international community.

Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States M. Humayun Kabir urged this while he was speaking at a programme organized by the Bangladesh Association of Georgia in Atlanta to celebrate the Victory Day and to raise funds for the Sidr victims. Citing the enormous sacrifice the people of Bangladesh had to make to get an independent country, Ambassador Kabir also underscored the need to make the new generation aware of the supreme sacrifice that their predecessors did for their securing a free homeland.

Appreciating the role of the new generation of Bangladeshi Americans, he expressed hope that they would continue to play the representational role to help introduce Bangladeshi culture and heritage to the mainstream US society and to connect Bangladesh to the global mainstream. Chaired by Mr. Reza Karim, President of the Association, Mr. Ali Hossain, Secretary General of the Association, Mr. Monowar Hossain, First Secretary of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington, DC also spoke on the occasion among others. During the fund raising drive, Bangladesh Association of Georgia helped to raise more than $ 10, 000.00 from the community members for the Chief Adviser's Relief Fund.

Earlier in the day, the Ambassador took part in an interactive session with the prominent professionals, businessmen and community leaders living in Atlanta over a luncheon. During that meeting, he urged them to complement the efforts of the current Caretaker government, which is working relentlessly to move the country ahead in the right direction.

He also assured the members of the community that Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC and its Consulates in New York and Los Angeles fully recognize the value that the community members can create for Bangladesh and hence will come forward in every possible way to cater to the needs of the Non-Resident Bangladeshis living in the US.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC also provided a two-day mobile consular service to the residents of Georgia and contiguous states.
