Poet Mahbub's demise condoled

Anwara Samity in Dhaka in a statement issued yesterday expressed deep shock at the demise of Language veteran and poet Mahbub-ul-Alam Chowdhury.

Leaders of the association called him a great son of this soil and his demise caused permanent and irreparable damage to the nationalistic spirit and contemporary Bengali literature.

President and General Secretary of the association ATM Jafarullah Chowdhury and Akhtarul Islam were among the signatories to the statement that hoped the nation would remember poet for his courageous role during the language movement.

NBR Chairman to join CCC&I meet

The newly appointed Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) will join a colloquium to be hosted by Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry tomorrow (Wednesday).

The colloquium will take place at the auditorium of the CCC&I at about 3:30 p.m. where the NBR Chairman Mohammad Abdul Majid to join as the chief guest.

Directors of the chamber and representatives of different trade bodies will also join the colloquium.

Organizers said that issues related to revenue, VAT (value added tax) pre-shipment inspection and income tax would be discussed in the colloquium.

Bahrain keen to invest in textile, power sectors

Business community of Bahrain has showed keen interest to invest in the country's textile and garment, power, petro-chemical and financial sector.

The community is also interested to import readymade garments, food products, spices, frozen shrimp and medicines from Bangladesh.

It was disclosed when a high-level Bangladeshi business delegation visited Bahrain and met with the leading Bahraini businessmen, including Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Ebrahim Joynal, recently.

Observing the potentiality, the visiting business delegation has decided to take part in a trade fair in Bahrain, where Bangladeshi products will be displayed. Dhaka International Exhibition Company is organising the Bangladeshi participating companies as the event management company.

Bangladesh Embassy in Bahrain has already wrote letters to Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau, Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Foreign Affairs for cooperating the fair organiser targeting to tape the potential market.
