Bangladesh U-19 win one-day series against Lanka : U-19; beat visitors by 49 runs in 4th one-day

A five-wicket haul by Shuvashis Roy enabled Bangladesh U-19 team to clinch the one-day series 3-1 against visiting Sri Lanka U-19 team as the hosts beat the visitors by 49 runs in the 4th one-dayer at Narayanganj Osmani Stadium (NOS) on Monday.

Shuvashis claimed five wickets for just 24 runs in 10 overs to bundle out Sri Lanka U-19 team for 118 in 36.5 overs after the hosts posted a moderate 167 for all in 48 overs. Shuvashis was later adjudged man of the match for his spectacular bowling performance.

Chose to bat first, Bangladesh U-19 top order Nasir Hossain topscored with 46 runs off 69 balls that featured eight fours while middle order Marshall Ayub remained unbeaten on 42.

One down Nadimuddin was the other notable scorer for the young Bangladesh side as he contributed 41 off 55 balls that featured six boundaries.

NM Kavikara took three wickets for 22 runs in 10 overs while Rajapaksha claimed two wickets for 27 runs for the young Sri Lankan side.

In chasing a much easier target, Sri Lanka U-19 team collapsed in batting although they got a decent start. Opener Dilshan Munaweera appeared to be the highest scorer with 40 off 29 balls hitting seven boundaries.

Another opener Dinesh Lokuge 25, K Janith Parera 17, Fernando not out 11 were the other notable scorers for the losing side.

Apart from Shuvashis' five wickets, Nasir Hossain, skipper Suhrawardy Shuvo and pacer Dollar Mahmud took one wicket apiece.

Both sides will play each other in the 5th and last one-day match Wednesday, also at the NOS.

Earlier, the hosts made a good start in the series beating Sri Lanka Under-19 side by 13 runs in the first one-day match. Then the tourists staged a comeback winning the 2nd one-day match by 14 runs, both at Shahid Chandu Stadium (SCS).

Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team then took a 2-1 lead beating the visitors by 44 runs in the 3rd one-day match at the SCS.

Bangladesh U-19 - 167 for all 48 overs, Nasir 46, Marshall not out 42, Nadimuddin 41, Rubel Hossain 7, Kavikara 3/22, Rajapaksha 2/27.

Sri Lanka U-19 - 118 for all in 36.5 overs, Dilshan 40, Dinesh 25, Janith 17, Fernando not out 11, Shuvashis 5/24, Shuvo 1/24.
