Bangladesh National Cricket team off to New Zealand Sports Reporter Bangladesh National Cricket team left the city yesterday for New Zealand for a month-long tour. UNB, Dhaka Bangladesh Under-19 team made a good start in the five-match one-day series beating visiting Sri Lanka Under-19 side by 13 runs at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra on Wednesday. The win came close on the heels of the just concluded Pakistan tour of the Shurawardi Shuvo-led U-19 team that beat Under-19 World Cup champions Pakistan 3-2 in the first five-match one-day series. Sent into bat first in the day's match against Sri Lanka U-19 team, Bangladesh U-19 side faced initial batting collapse losing top three wickets of Rony Talukder (0), Ashraful Aziz (11) and Nasir Hossain (1) for 67 runs in 17.2 overs. Among the top order batsmen, Mohammad Mithun was the lone Bangladesh batsman who played confidently to guide Bangladesh to a moderate total of 234 runs in stipulated 50 overs. Mithun contributed team highest 59 runs off 78 balls with eight fours and two sixes while skipper Suhrawardi Shuvo, batting at number seven, added another useful 49 runs off 41 balls with four fours. Middle order Marshall Ayub (38) and Mahmudul Hasan (44) were the two other notable batsmen who reached double figure while another 19 runs came from extras. Sachith Parthirana claimed five wickets for 52 runs in 10 overs and later scored 42 runs off 34 balls with five fours and a six to be adjudged man of the match. In reply, visiting Sri Lanka Under-19 team were forced to close their innings at 221 for 7 in stipulated 50 overs. Roshane Silva contributed not out 51 runs off 70 balls with two fours, opener D Chandimal and one down D Munaweera scored 39 runs each while captain Ashan Priyanjan made 12 for the tourists. Nasir Hossain grabbed two wickets for 35 runs in 10 overs with a maiden while Rubel Hossain, Suhrawardi Shuvo, Mahmudul Hasan and Dollar Mahmud took one wicket apiece giving away 24, 32, 45 and 47 runs respectively. Sri Lanka youth team will play two more limited over matches against their Bangladesh counterpart at the same venue on December 14 and 15. The Young Tigers will play the 4th and 5th one-day matches on December 18 and 20 against the young Lankans at the Narayanganj Osmani Stadium.
