Team East take overall 279-run lead over Team North UNB, Dhaka Team East took an overall 279-run lead over Team North on the 2nd day of the final round four-day Challenger's Cup at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium (DCS) here Saturday. After declaring the 1st innings at 309 for 9 in 112.3 overs, Team East scored 78 for 4 in 31 overs in their 2nd innings at stumps after Team North managed 108 for 9 in 34.4 overs in the 1st innings. Reazul Islam batting on 8 and Debabrato Pal batting on 0 will resumed the 2nd innings of Team East today (Sunday). Fariduddin Hasan, Gazi Alamgir, Mohammad Yunus and Mohammad Mamun took one wicket each. Responding to Team East's 1st innings total of 309, Team North collapsed totally in their 1st innings as only two of their batsmen were able to reach the double figures. Number three Arman Hossain remained not out with 71 facing 104 balls that featured 12 fours while opener Amit Majumder made 10. Debabrato claimed four wickets for 28 runs while Raihanuddin took two for 17. Earlier, Team East resumed their 1st innings with overnight 259 for 5 in 95 overs. Overnight batsman Salahuddin Ahmed scored 40 off 114 balls with five boundaries while Rezaul Islam made 26. Pacer Gazi Alamgir grabbed four wickets for 55 runs in 20 overs while Mohammad Yunus took three wickets for 63 runs. In the day's other match at the BKSP in Savar, Team South were in commanding position against Team West on the 2nd day as they declared their 1st innings at 355 for 9 in 141.5 overs. In reply, Team West were trailing by 262 runs in the 1st innings scoring 93 for 2 in 38 overs at stumps on the 2nd day. Opener Sanjay Chakraborty was batting on 52 scored off 107 with six fours while wicket keeper Kuntal Chandra was the other not out batsman with 8. Ahsanullah Hasan took both the wickets for 11 runs. Earlier, in the morning, Team South resumed their 1st innings with overnight 201 for 3 in 91 overs as Sumon Saha and Moniruzzaman took the field. Sumon, who remained unbeaten on 53 on the 1st day, contributed 93 runs off 235 balls with eight fours while Moniruzzaman made 56 off 159 balls with six boundaries. Number nine Rubaiyat Huq also came up with a handy 66 runs in the later part of the innings facing 88 balls that included five fours and a six. Mohammad Akash and pacer Hasibul Hossain Shanto took three wickets apiece for 62 and 86 runs respectively.
