Reuters, Hobart
Former Australian international batsman Darren Lehmann announced his retirement from all forms of cricket today.
The 37-year-old told a news conference in Adelaide he would call it quits after playing two more matches this week, ending a first-class career spanning two decades.
"I think I'm playing well enough at this level still, but the injuries are just getting too much," Lehmann said. "It's getting harder to get out of bed in the morning to start with."
Lehmann played 27 tests for Australia, scoring 1798 runs at an average of 44.95, plus 117 one-day internationals, including the 1999 and 2003 World Cup finals won by Australia.
A left-handed middle-order batsmen, Lehmann also scored more than 25,000 first-class runs for Australia, South Australia and Yorkshire and remains the highest run- scorer in the Australian domestic first-class competition.
Pakistan ease to consolation win
BBC Online
Shoaib Malik produced a fine all-round display to inspire his side to a 31-run win as Pakistan salvaged some pride from their 3-2 series defeat in India.
Malik fired 89 off just 82 balls as he and Mohammad Yousuf shared a record fourth-wicket stand against India of 168 in helping Pakistan to 306-6.
India always looked like struggling after Sohail Tanvir took 3-42 early on.
Yuvraj Singh (50) and Rohit Sharma (52) provided some hope, but skipper Malik (3-61) helped bowl them out for 275.
It brought muted celebrations from the visitors, who will not be happy despite their victorious finale following their first one-day series defeat in India for 24 years.
That result had already been secured by the hosts' six-wicket win in Gwalior on Thursday.
And, with that in mind, the hosts took the opportunity to give their fringe players a match, with debutant Praneev Kumar joined by Sharma, Murali Kartik and Sree Santh in the starting XI.
That meant Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh, RP Singh and Zaheer Khan could watch from the sidelines, alongside Pakistan stars Shoaib Akhtar, Younus Khan and Shahid Afridi.
Gayle to captain West Indies in Zimbabwe
Reuters, Miami
Jamaican opening batsman Chris Gayle will captain the West Indies for their five one-day matches on their tour of Zimbabwe later this month.
Gayle, who took charge of the one-day team on this year's tour of England, replaces skipper Ramnaresh Sarwan who will miss the Zimbabwe tour due to injury, the West Indies Cricket Board said.
Brenton Parchment, Gayle's opening batting partner for Jamaica, is set to make his debut for the West Indies after earning his first call-up in the 15-man squad.
The 25-year-old right-hander impressed during the regional KFC Cup one-day tournament, won by Jamaica, and he will compete with Devon Smith for the opening slot with Gayle.
Former captain Clive Lloyd will manage the team on the tour where newly appointed Australian coach John Dyson will be absent.
Dyson has been given time to attend to domestic matters before joining up with the squad on the tour of South Africa and so Barbadian Henderson Springer and Trinidadian David Williams will serve as the coaches in Zimbabwe.
Leg-spinner Rawl Lewis has been given a recall to the side along with middle-order batsman Marlon Samuels but there is no place for all-rounder Dwayne Smith.
The West Indies play Zimbabwe in Harare on Nov. 30 in the first of five one-day games.
