3 trawlers capsize in Padma: 13 feared dead

UNB, Faridpur

Two children drowned and 11 passengers reported missing as three trawlers with more than 100 people capsized in river Padma on Wednesday evening.

Bodies of Smriti, 2, daughter of Sheikh Shahjahan and Monir, 4, son of Milon Khan of Char Shalipur village have been recovered.

Sheikh Sagar, Minara, 2, Munjari, Shila Begum, Moyna Khatun, Aasia Khatun, Hashem Khan, Chabua Khatun, Moslem, Hajera and Khokon of Charshali village were reported missing.

Police and survivors said three trawlers carrying more than 100 VGF card holders Char Bhadrasion were returning home after collecting rice from Char Harirampur High School.

The trawlers caught in a cyclonic storm capsized in the river. Char Bhadrasion UNO Saidur Rahman and OC Mainul Hossain visited the spot Wednesday night.

Rescue teams were continuing searching the missing people.
