News Briefs Fertilisers seized NATORE, Nov 14: Police arrested two persons with 32 bags of fertilisers from the Rail Bridge of the town on Monday. Police said local people caught Majnur Rahman, 38, and Abul Kalam, 20, with a van carrying the DSP fertilisers. The arrested were handed over to police. During interrogation, they confessed to the police that the fertilisers were taken to Charghat of Rajshahi for smuggling out to India, reports BSS. Workshop held at BARD COMILLA, Nov 14: A workshop was held at Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) here on Monday aimed at strengthening the union parishad with the coordination of information and communication technology (ICT). A total of 33 representatives from NILG, LGED, UNDP, Zila Parishad and BARD took part in the workshop. The workshop was organised as part of the expert opinions for implementing experimental projects of the BARD, reports BSS. Bombs recovered JESSORE, Nov 14: Members of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) seized three powerful bombs and arrested one person from bordering Sadipur village near Benapole in the district on Sunday morning. Sources said, acting on a tip-off, a team of BDR raided one Ayub Hossain's house at Sadipur and after searching the house and adjacent areas recovered the bombs from inside a haystack. The BDR detained Altaf Hossain, son of Ayub Hossain in this connection. A case was filed with Benapole Port police station, reports BSS. Deer poachers held with arms BAGERHAT, Nov 14: Forest guards arrested four deer poachers along with firearms and ammunition from Nangli area of Sundarbans in Sharankhola upazila Monday morning. Acting on secret information that some miscreants entered into the Sundarbans to hunt deer, the forest guards of east zone conducted a drive in the area and arrested Harunur Rashid, Fazle Haq, Kalam Sheikh and Biplob Bepari. They also recovered a foreign-made gun, two sharp weapons, nine rounds of bullet and three cartridges from their procession. A case was filed, reports UNB. Drug peddler held NAOGAON, Nov 14: Police arrested a drug peddler along with 320 bottles of phensidyl syrup from Pirojpur area of the district town Saturday night. Acting on a tip-off, traffic sergeant Golam Sarwar halted two egg carrying rickshaw vans in the area at midnight. Later, searching the vans police recovered the phensidyl syrup and arrested Riaz Molla, 45 in this connection. A case was filed, reports UNB. Valuables looted KERANIGANJ, Nov 14: Four people were injured as miscreants ransacked a house and a business establishment here Sunday night. The criminals swooped on the house and shop of Ali Hossain at Bhawal area and ransacked those at about 8PM. When resisted, the attackers hit four people with sharp weapons leaving them injured. Three of the injured were identified as Ali Hossain, Shahabuddin and Mamun. All the injured were admitted to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, reports UNB. FF killed in road mishap NAOGAON, Nov 14: A freedom fighter was killed in a tragic road accident at Kumuria in Sadar upazila Sunday morning. The dead was identified as Jalal Hossain, 58. Police and witnesses said, Jalal died on the spot when a speeding truck rammed his bicycle on his way to the district town at about 7 AM. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed, reports UNB.
