50-year of Kagmari confce to be observed

Veteran language hero Abdul Matin urged the caretaker government to give permission for celebrating the 50 years of the historic Kagmari Conference.

He was speaking at a press conference organised by the National Committee for Celebration of 50 years of Kagmari Conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity yesterday.

Criticising the government decision for not allowing the holding of the three-day long conference, which was scheduled to be held from November 15 to November 17 at Santosh of Tangail, Abdul Matin, also the president of the celebration committee announced the new celebration schedule beginning from February 9 of the next year.

''Even if the government does not allow, we will hold the conference any way'' he vowed.

Earlier, the Committee applied to the Home Ministry for holding the three -day long programme at Santosh of Tangail.

But the Government did not allow because of the emergency rule in the country.

Presided over by Abdul Matin, Badruddin Omar, President, Jatiya Mukti Council, Eng Sheikh Shahidullah, Convener, National Committee for the Protection of Oil, Gas, Ports and Power, Syed Irfanul Bari, General Secretary, National Committee for celebration of 50 years of Kagmari Conference and Women Leader Hajera Sultana, among others, were present at the press conference.

Syed Irfanul Bari in his written speech said they will take various programmes including seminar, cultural events to observe the historic Kagmari Conference at Santosh of Tangail.
